Drinking ban applies to the bus and DLR as well as the tube

TFL do not have jurisdiction over overland trains.

Well that's good news. I've never really been in the position where I fancied a drink on the tube or on a bus, however I am quite partial to a cold one whilst reading on a train jouney of any length. :)

That is pure fucking gold. A ban on something that damages the health of people around you is 'outrageous', yet you support a ban on something that, in itself, has no effect on other people.

That one stuck out to me as well. Trully bizarre comment.

2am on a nightbus, and a man climbs on with a can of beer in his hand. Yes, I am wary...

But this is a matter of your perception. You basically want legislation that stops people from doing things that make them look as if they might do something to you. There are loads of characteristics of a person that might lead you to be wary of them; IMO it is only really legitimate to legislate against people actually doing things, rather than looking like they might do things. You need effective legislation effectively enforced to deal with problem behaviour, whether caused by drinking, being drunk, or something else altogether.

exactly

his whole arguement is that a 'silent majority' support him.

They weren't so silent last night. I got on a 266 to North Acton, sat down upstairs and opened a can of that energy drink, I think it's called relentless. I was almost immediately confronted by someone asking me if I knew alcohol was banned and telling me I couldn't drink it on the bus.
Embarrassed apologies ensued...:p,

I think Boris has made a very clever move here. How much it will help cut crime on the buses I don't know, but it does look like a popular move (much like the smoking ban which I hate even though I don't smoke).

I'm amazed how many people here like drinking on buses. I think the last time I did it I was 14!:D

And, of course, that legislation already exists, but it's not being enforced.

So, make something else illegal rather than enforce laws that already exist - great idea...
