DON’T BOOK KLM!

dessiato

🇪🇸 españa te quiero
I’m furious with them. I’ve just booked a flight Edinburgh to Schipol to Malaga. Everything went through easily, I got confirmation of payment. Mrs Dess wanted the details to pass to her father so, having the site still open, I checked the itinerary. The leg to Malaga is cancelled! I’ve already got a confirmation of cancellation. It didn’t stop them taking the money! And I’ve now got to wait for them to calculate how much they’ll refund me for a flight they’d already cancelled when I booked it.

I can’t believe they’ve done this, they took a booking for a flight they’d cancelled. I’m fucking furious!

I’ve managed to book through Ryanair, Glasgow to Malaga less than half the price, but, well Ryanair.

I would imagine this is happening to flights all over the place at the moment and imagine KLM are far from unique in doing this, including taking cash.
Claim back through credit card?

I'm in the same boat. My flight to NYC got cancelled months ago and I was told processing my refund will take three months, I have no assurance that I will get a refund after three months. I booked directly though KLM but my ticket was issued by Air France, so the refund form online didn't work and neither did the one by Air France, which only was available in French. I ended up doing it by phone, but the staff on the phone were being vague and evasive about anything other than the three month time waiting time.

It annoys me so much because the time between booking and the cancellation was less than 5 minutes, confirmation of cancellation was almost as fast as confirmation of payment, but refund will be three months. Bang out of order.

Did you pay with a credit card? If so maybe they can get your money back quicker?

I have refused to fly KLM since they fucked up a flight and then fucked up the fix and then treated us like shit for two days while they shuttled us around Europe and then lost our luggage as well. That was in the mid 90s.

Hope you get paid back properly dessiato and Reno

Which? report said Virgin were the worst in the industry but given the behaviour of BA, Ryanair, Easy Jet and others the whole industry is a shower of cunts

From an agent's point of view; we normally process refunds via the same booking system we issue tickets on, called a GDS, and it would be processed via the same central processing agency that does the tickets, (BSP in the UK, ARC in the US), this automatically returns the money in 14 days. Many airlines switched that off at the start of Covid, so we had to apply manually, directly with the airline and they took varying times to come through. I had four tickets to Japan with Lufthansa that went in for refund in April and we got the money in mid-June. At a similar time I put through Singapore Air and Virgin ones and neither came back, both airlines just sat on them and made no attempt to process them. Yesterday Virgin turned on refunds via BSP and ARC and apologised for being slow to process manual ones, (they didn't process any at all). Singapore Air still have BSP/ARC refunds turned off. We all appreciate that times are tough for airlines, and turning off automatic refunds is legitimate as processing them manually ensures that money only goes back when it really is due*, but to turn them off and make no attempt to process them is shitty behaviour and in fact illegal. Good luck with taking these fuckers to court though.

*refunding via BSP/ARC, the money automatically comes back to the agent, if it was applied for incorrectly the airline must audit it and send an Agency Debit Memo to claw back the cash.

Just had my Jack's flight club email. TUI selling cheap flights to Varadero in Cuba in November.

Varadero is currently closed to tourism with no date for when they will be open again.

Contacted RyanAir this morning. This was my 5th contact since March, and my third since requesting no vouchers and cash refund only. In July they promised my money back in 4-6 weeks. This morning they told me my voucher hadn't been cancelled by them (a pre-requisite for getting a cash refund) and it will now be 3 weeks when they pay me.

Obviously I don't believe a word of it but they did send me an email cancelling the voucher. Followed by another email saying my voucher is still valid.

Fucking useless cunts.

Standard. They get to keep the money for a few weeks and earn interest on it, and, in the event they cancel they'll have made a tidy profit on all those collective fares they hand back.

Or they'll make an offer to switch a booking to another location, or take a voucher, and still keep the business/profit.

Either way, they will profit.

Mrs D was due to fly from EDI to Málaga last easter. I hate flying with them but it doesn't bother her so she was happy to use them. Because of lock down the flight was cancelled. In three weeks they'd processed and issued a voucher. Two weeks after that they offered a cash refund or keep the voucher. Of everyone we've dealt with this year, re flights, t hey are the only ones to have been quick and efficient. Pity they're so shit otherwise.

Yes but I'm willing to bet you a lot of money she hasn't received a cash refund even if she's asked. I was offered a cash refund on March 27th, within days of my flight being cancelled. Six months later I'm still waiting.

Had plenty of voucher offers of course. See skyscraper's post above.

Offering a cash refund and processing it are two separate matters. RyanAir are not processing cash refunds until threatened with a CC claim. So no, they aren't being good about anything. They are holding onto money for profit.

You're quite right. Have a refund confirmation from 24th May, not had the cash. My guess is they know a good proportion won't bother chasing cos they'll either forget or not think it's worth it for relatively small amounts. UK courts need to be able to add punitive damages to stop behaviour such as this.

At last...and after several threatening words. And 6 months.
