I've seen it that dress, and IMHO the beading alone would make it worth £50, never mind the fact that it's vintage and the sheer layer is probably silk chiffon rather than synthetic.

I think part of the problem is that it really is a very nice dress, it wouldn't be easy to find another one like it, and if it's the first time you're doing that particular repair or alteration it's daunting.
