Daniel Hannan talking in America about Europe

you can bet, that along with Ron Paul, his stance on legalising drugs has nothing to do with alleviating the social ills of prohibition and everything to do with the precious unfettered market beloved of his ilk

Correct. He's playing a really catchy tune that people can tap their foot to and nothing more.

decriminalise then. Not controlled sale nor illegality.
His position is that the states should be able to do this if they wish whereas currently they cannot. No that they all should (though that may be his personal preference). It's similar to his views on discrimination - states should be able to discriminate as they wish - regardless of his personal opinion as to whether they should. (Incidentally, great leninist principle).

They've de facto legalised pot in California. Any fucker can now go to a 'dispensary', say they've got any symptom under the sun and claim that weed makes it better and without any further questions or examination can walk away with the strongest, most potent mind bending shit you can imagine.

His son Rand thinks that buisnesses should be able to discriminate as they wish.

I've tried to read Atlas Shrugged a couple of times. Not my cup of tea.

Don't bother. The prose is leaden and the characters are wooden. 600(?) pages are devoted to her 'philosophy' and is delivered in the form of a speech by the book's central character.

There is a film version, titled Atlas Shrugged Part 1. Parts 2 and 3 in the pipeline. As if one wasn't enough. :D

Did'nt he go on Fox News to shit on the NHS when Obama was trying to introduce a similar system in the US a few years ago ?

iirc he went one step further and helped promote the 'death panels*' myth which gained so much traction with his fellow swivel-eyed loons stateside... =/

*He certainly took no steps to scotch the rumour, despite having several opportunities to do so. I definitely remember that much...

He knows where his bread is buttered over there.I bet he makes a tidy sum spouting right-wing bollox on Fuxs News.

Thanks. Mental. How the fuck is that different to what happens over there already? The "panel" is capitalism and the deciding factor is money.

Palin et al hyped up NICE's role in determining the cost of meds for treatment and turned that cost/benefit role of the committee into some outlandish totalitarian state-sponsored death panel that determined the value of a human life and by turn decided whether you received treatment for life threatening conditions. Steven Hawking even weighed-in during a visit to the white house by saying that it was all bullshit...

Doh, late with the reply... Stupid memory, work faster dammit! :D

Someone in my SP branch works for NICE  I should probably start carrying stakes, garlic and silver bullets around.

The panel is insurance companies. All health care is rationed - give me NICE over a private insurance company any day.

oh dear, we live in a world of limited resources in which we have to share what we have. How evil.

Hannan is a despicable character. He talks completely differently when he appears in the British media. He's a coward.

I read on another thread in this/uk p&p forum that some insurance companies out there even fuck about with approving treatments for some patients knowing full well that they would not survive long enough to see the company being compelled by litigation to approve the meds :(

He's scum. (sorry, seems to be my favourite word at the mo)

I refer to him as Dissembling Dan Hannan. If you ever have the misfortune to read his blogs on the Torygraph, you'll see that he's not very good at being truthful.

My boot and his face make an excellent match.
