Damien hirst's peculiar dating

I am guessing the formaldehyde didn't actually preserve the animals / birds / whatever because of interfering factors* And he had to create the works again or create similar works and date them as per the timing of "original idea to creation / fruition of idea as physical object".

*I think he is a bit of a chancer.

Next they'll be telling us he doesn't even paint most of his paintings and gets a team of assistants to do them for him instead.

Oh.

Well they all do that. I once got into a barney with one of Hockney's 'assistants' over that. He's got a proper squad.

At least 'Hirst's' work is good.

Well, yeh, to me it is, but obvs art by nature is subjective. It's definitely better than the MS Paint shite Hockney has been flogging for decades.

Some of it is good. Some of his work has made me think and feel and have ideas, even lived within me as a reference point. Most of what I’ve seen doesn’t have that effect on me at all. I look at it and it seems pointless, vapid, banal, even stupid. I’ve been to several of his exhibitions over the years and that’s been consistent for me.

I think Hockney got bored once he was successful/heard &seen, and as a result, really boring.

I don't rate him at all. I've seen tik tok videos with more skill and originality than putting dead animals in formaldahyde or creating a glass box full of flies.

Oh but it's a commentary about how artificial light permeates modern life.... Amazing. What a genius.

I must say I do like some of his stuff. And restoration has been part of art forever:

I follow him on instagram. Just to see how he works.
Some of his stuff is just him flinging paint around.

Then there's this...

Burning them..

His workshop in Dudbridge is just down the hill from my mum's house. Not certain but think it's what used to be the car parts factory I worked in as a youth, same estate at least.
