Cold water swimming

The water was 6.4 degrees in the lake I went into today. Apparently the other one was slightly warmer but there's quite a few fish and I'll have to work up to that one.

That is chilly! The sea in some places here has been in the double digits lately, it rarely gets near 6.4!

I started open water swimming last year and want to carry on this season, are there special wetsuits for swimming?

The coldest I’ve dived in is 4 and that was in a drysuit, I can’t fathom swimming in 6 with just a wetsuit

Just in a swimming costume actually but I can't claim much swimming happened at that temp. More of a dip and got my shoulders under.

My first cold water swim was my coldest. I was persuaded to join a cold water relay "race" at the outdoor pool in buckfastleigh. It was January and the pool was 4.3C. I said I'd go first (to just get it done before my bottle went). I got about 3 metres before mental shutdown. Someone quickly swapped and I managed to get back in and do the next leg. Skins.

I've made friends with a woman who swims at the same place as me and she's introduced me to the microfibre wash mitt for cars. :D
It's brilliant at drying you off enough to be comfortable in your changing changing robe incase you want another dip.

I'm off to the Lakes this weekend and hoping to get some swimming in. 🤞

Sea is a no go area round here at the moment. South West water constantly pouring sewage directly out.
It's just so awful. I wanted to go down to Brighton to see my daughter and have a swim but she said we probably shouldn't.
