But Liljen seems to be the only person ever to be happy with the end product
shes either talented or has no tastebuds;)
I burnt them all off eating toast :)

Grrrrrrrr

So, our airbed has a flaming puncture  and we need to replace it before friday for Endorse it festival so there's not huge amounts of time to buy online.

I was just going to buy another double airbed but madamv thinks 2 singles would be more comfy. Also thermarests, they seem popular. Are they more comfy than airbeds?

I don't want a camping mat or a camp bed.

Help me urban.

I have to shamefully confess that I took one look at that one and bought one from the company hosting the picture.

I'll report back in a couple of weeks on how it works.

No. Thermarests just iron-out the worst of the bumps but airbeds are still comfiest but have the weight/space penalty.

We have a huge tent so space isn't a problem. They are heavy but we managed last summer.

this is apparently a tent peg remover.

nobody would seriously buy one when they have tent pags lying around would they?

Okay!

I'm suddenly glad that I have never in all my years of camping, felt the need or desire to own one of those.

Think this might be a stocking filler for the camper with everything. :D

My mallet has a small hook attached that is really good for getting the pegs out of the ground - better than another peg to be honest as hook is smaller so can get under the pegs better. Very user friendly

i've never needed a mallett as i dont tend to camp up mountains. and if i do need to bang something in i use the battery end of my huge maglite.

Just got back yesterday from a 9-night stint spread over two sites - Hawkshead and Robin Hood's Bay in my trusty VRX 500 (moose, aqua and William know it!)

3402_160824i.jpg

The first half of the week in Hawkshead was crap as it tipped down nearly every day  , but holiday was saved by the second half of the week when we trekked East and actually found some nice weather!

I was very restrained shopping-wise. I bought a cheapie Gore-Tex (left mine at home on the rather stupid advice of Mr Riff) plus some new North Face walking shoes similar to the ones I bought in Canada last year, but have had trouble getting a replacement pair for when the current ones wear out. I managed to refrain from buying a new festival tent even though Millets and Yeomans had displays on.

We also experimented new camping food - quesadillas. Take a wrap, add the (pre-cooked) filling of your choice and shallow-fry both sides in hot oil. We mostly used ham, cheese and tabasco for a filling, but the sky is the limit, really. Mmmm!

My next camping trip is Beautiful Days next weekend. I'm going to have to seriously downsize as it's the first time since 1998 I'm taking public transport. I'm hoping to stuff everything in the 55L rucksack and use compression bags, but I get the feeling I'm going to have to use the 85L one!

Look forward to seeing some of you there!

I know this falls more into picnic porn, but does anyone know where I can pick up some ice packs like these...

CGFreezpacM10.jpg

WildDay do have them, but it's 7 day delivery (I'd quite like them for Thursday, but haven't got my arse in gear).

Have checked Argos, Sainsburys, Blacks, Woolworhts and John Lewis... no luck :(

I got mine in oswald bailey, 2 for a quid. They also do them in Tesco and Asda. Or Robert Dyas-they will be a bit dearer.

We are buying those Ice cube bag things too and filling our coolbag with those.

Had a look in tesco just now and they had none... might have to give Robert Dyas a go (nearest Asda is Old Kent Road I think... quite a cycle away)

That's what I need it for, my cool bag... running out of time though :(

Disorganised Bee

Have you got an Oswald Bailey or something similiar?

What about Wilkinsons or Lidl?

derv and i manage to only carry 5 things between us - we try to cram everything into two 55L rucksacks, a small day rucksack, tent and camping stove cos it comes in a fucking stoopid box!

i'm not sure i'd be safe camping with a car

gaijinboy and I put it all in our bicycle panniers. very small tent, 2 compression sleeping bags and lots of booze. Works every time. :)

Not sure what Oswald Bailey is :D
And not seen a Wilko's down south.

GG think I'll take you up on your offer, unless I find some tomorrow, cheers :)

edit: just seen their website (http://www.oswaldbailey.co.uk/) and there aren't any in London - I'll get some when I get back (for next time ;))

I'm hoping to carry just three things, a daysack/bum-bag, folding chair (containing my camp-bed and tent poles) and a rucksack with everything else in including my tent! I already have flunkies taking my stove and beer.

P.S. I saw your "Darth Vader" tent at a campsite last week. They look really cool in the flesh! :D

woohoo :D the trusty general store in Camberwell (one of those shops with everything in it) had some ice packs, so I got a few, as well as borrowed a few... I will have cold juice and cheese :)

Tip: Freeze yer juice as well!

VauDe make the best 'proper' tents around. You can put them up in the rain in two minutes without geting the inner wet. It's all connected and there's only one pole, which goes on the outside.
