gaijinboy and I put it all in our bicycle panniers. very small tent, 2 compression sleeping bags and lots of booze. Works every time. :)

Only cos the rest goes in my car and you sleep in my oversized tent. :D :D :D

Yes, I think it's fair to say things got a lot easier on the camping front when you bought your canvas motel!! :D

Look. I've told you before. It's not a motel. It's a high performance lightweight adventure tent. Just because I can barely lift it packed up.

<hides ridiculous shiny-fish-windsock-thing bought a whim last week>

Do you mean a koinobori?

Households fly them on boys' day in Japan. They're very beautiful when you see loads of them at once.

VauDe make the best 'proper' tents around. You can put them up in the rain in two minutes without geting the inner wet. It's all connected and there's only one pole, which goes on the outside.

yeah i've started seeing them pop up more & more. but i'm too old/fragile to be crawling in/out of tents

Nice one wiskey and people for completing my list for me. New tent's up in the garden to try it out first (we all put our tents up so we don't look idiots when we try for the first time at the festi?). It looks all dry inside it but we had an inch of rain last night and i'm wondering how to get it dry in time now.

I want one of these: http://www.eydonkettle.co.uk/ . I've not seen one, but apparently they got a hole up the middle for the flames to go up so that it heats the water really quickly (uses paper and a few twigs). I'm not sure if they do a frying pan attachment though :(

those kettles (i'm told) are superb. but they only do water.

yes :) we always put our tents up in the garden first ;)

and i shouldnt worry about it being wet - you'll take it down, store it overnight and put it back up again. not long enough to get mouldy.

we've just discovered (two days before a wet festie) that derv has managed to lose not only the groundsheet from my new tent  but also his new waterproof jacket   :(

so any suggestions as to where we can buy a REALLY cheap one tomorrow?

I bought an OK waterproof jacket last weekend for £13 from Tchibo. It's been out in the rain and was OK.

noo i mean REALLY cheap!

i'm so fucked off  i got him a lovely set of trews and jacket. RAAHHHH

i cant even lend him one of mine cos he's a short arse.

well work something out. or he'll wear a bingbag i dont care.

Try and get a snowboarding jacket like I did a wee while back.

Who bought what this year then?

I bought a shiny new camping pan set, just googled a picture of it and found it cheaper elsewhere.

I bought a vango diablo 600 (haven't had the weather to put it up yet) and a snazzy pink camping fridge for £20

I just bought a clockwork lamp/radio

Well it would be  except I've just read the small print and it takes something like 5 mins of winding for 15 mins of light or 1 minute of radio!

Hmmm, Lil'FA's going to be doing a lot of winding... :D

I've just bought the Tempest 300 for a ton. Nice weight for the mountains, plenty of space, especially at the front. It's only for two people but I've spent so many years sleeping head to toe, I thought I'd get some luxury in my camping life. Bring on some good weather :)

I can see this thread seeing some action today... :D

I'm not sure if I already posted this, but we bought one of these last year

and it was bloody excellent.

a bit heavy to carry for very long distances with all your other tat, but worth it for the doors at each end, which are essential for getting a bit of breeze through when you wake up, so you don't get prematurely forced out of your tent in the burning heat of the, morning

I want a lovely canvas bell tent like this...

bell_tent_2.jpg

warm when it's cold, cool when it's hot. avoids that boil in the bag festy morning head.

drawback is price and rather heavy, but then, why did I have children if not to use them as slaves?:D

Got me a carp trolley similar to this not so long ago. It is made of welded box section, comes to bits and has pneumatic tyres.
