"budget" headphones - AKG?

I have some AKG K451's which are on-ear headphones, I think for around £45. They're great, I love the sound quality, but they have an annoying proprietary replaceable cable which seems to fail every few months and need replacing, it's not just me yanking on it, everyone says this. I thought I might get some over-ear headphones to use alongside them. The AKG-52/-72/-92 range seem to get good reviews, and could perhaps be the best available in the £30-50 range?

Has anyone got these or could recommend some alternatives to consider?

Haven’t got that particular model but I do have a pair of AKG’s and they are superb.

General impression I get with this brand is they are more substance over style.

This seems to be firm faves with quite few urbz. I love them

I had AKG headphones. I had the same problem with the cable. I replaced them with AKG bluetooth headphones and haven't looked back. The battery seems to last forever, and I certainly don't miss that cable.

I think they're a good sound although most of the time I use them for Radio 4 which perhaps isn't the best measure.

Love my Anker.

Not sure I want bluetooth ones tbh, but I might get those Anker ones for listening to internet radio around the house.

They can be used with a cable though the one they come with is rather short and while they will take any 3.5 mil jack it needs to have a very thin rubber casing at one end or it won't fit.

If you're looking for a wired headset, I can't recommend Plantronics highly enough. I've recently bought a pair of Backbeat Pro 2's which are wireless but you'll be able to grab a pair of the orignal Backbeat Pro's on eBay for not very much at all and they had wireless and wired connectivity. They're a little bit bulky and fucking ugly but by far and away the best sound reproduction of any headset Ive used.

The Ankers can function either as wired or Bluetooth. I use them with an audio cable for practising guitar and the sound quality is very good, better than Bluetooth IMO.

I have a Plantronics headset for Skype, every call centre I worked in had Plantronics kit, it is excellent.
