Mr Big Shrimp!
R.I.P.
'Breaking Bad' Movie From Creator Vince Gilligan in the Works

Details on the project, which has been floating around the industry with a possible fake/working title of Greenbrier, are slim. It's unclear if the movie would be another prequel — like AMC's Better Call Saul — or a follow-up of some sort.

It's also unclear is if any of the original stars, such as Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul, are involved in the new project, which sources stress will be set in the existing Breaking Bad franchise.

Gilligan, sources say, will pen the script, executive produce and possibly direct. Breaking Bad and prequel series Better Call Saul exec producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein are also said to be attached to the film project, which is said to follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.

Production is expected to begin this month in New Mexico. The New Mexico Film Office confirmed that a project with the title of Greenbrier is slated to shoot in in the region

I have a problem with this, even if it turns out everyone behind the series will be involved in the film. I think film-to-TV-series is a natural progression, but I struggle to see how it can work the other way around.

Admittedly there have been some successful series-to-film progressions (Mission Impossible being a prime example) but in most cases such a long time had elapsed the film was effectively a reboot and the original series could be safely ignored.

Breaking Bad is far too recent and far too good to reboot, and the story was rounded up and concluded with no loose ends so I wonder what the storyline will be about. Kill it with fire IMO.

Watched it. Disappointing will comment further later en route to airport:D

Disappointing. It relies of an in-depth knowledge and recall of BB. It crept forward so slowly that your attention wanders and you miss the flashback transitions, only length of Jess’s hair and facial scars keeping you on track

I can barely remember the final scene, if it was a series episode it would be described as a low paced filler

Badger and skinny pete perfectly played as always

Watch it on your sofa, just don’t have booze or get comfy you’ll be hypnotised and catching flies before you know it

Loved this. A fitting epilogue to Jesse's story and the cameos were not distracting. Was initially concerned that it might be redundant but no, Gilligan pulled it off. Was it essential? Probably not but still a welcome addition.

The odd pacing and structure definitely made it feel more like an extended bit of television than a film, but maybe that's just because we've come to expect cinematic-looking TV shows these days. Breaking Bad itself set a benchmark in that department.

Best bits:

The performances of Jesse Plemons and Robert Forster

Issues:

The lack of a compelling villain in the 'present day' timeline. I never really felt like Jesse wasn't going to get away clean in the end. Also a profoundly traumatised and physically broken Jesse (very well portrayed as far as it goes) became a clear-headed, quick thinking badass in a matter of hours. Made for some great set piece scenes but it also kept me a bit detached from it all.

I also found a little bit hard to believe that

Jesse was allowed to live, let alone take a third of the cash by the guys searching for the money in the apartment. The excuse that they couldn’t shoot him because of the noise and thus had no other option but to agree to Jesse’s terms felt weak and unrealistic.

But I enjoyed it overall.

The film's fine and has some fan service in it.

But Aaron Paul is just not good enough to be a lead actor in anything.

Film's fine though.

I really enjoyed it, had some grim scenes in it too. Felt slightly like it needed more of something, not sure what. The ending left me feeling a bit deflated, but overall excellent watching.

I enjoyed the show, but thought a movie sounds like a bad idea. Still, above reviews seem positive so I'll give it a go.
