Blood donations have gone down in Scotland by 15%

Donors are being asked to give three times a year.

I give blood whenever the travelling bloodbank visits, and then again if I'm in Edinburgh, Glasgow, or down seeing my kids.

Don't think the Blood Donor Service in Scotland ever really recovered its previous level of respect after it emerged they were selling-on donated blood to the US on a profit basis.

A lot of the regular donors I knew back then simply stopped.

Some aspects of the service are outdated, a friend of mine who's 52 and was born in South Africa, still can't be a blood donor. But there could always be the day when I'll need some blood, and I've got one of the rarer types, so I'll keep donating.
