Bicycle Racing Thread 2013

King Biscuit, steephill.tv might be worth a look, as might cyclingtorrents.nl

In other news, UCI are to experiment with 6 rider teams this season. Not sure which two races are to be used for this experiment but it sounds like a good idea to me. A good 8 or 9 rider team can control most races quite easily these days, so anything that brings a bit of unpredictability is good in my eyes.

Looking good for Froome in the mountains, but surely he should have had a support rider at least half way up the mountain?

CAS orders UCI to issue Katusha a WorldTour licence. Remains to be seen if UCI will simply add them as a World Tour team, or if they will have to remove the licence from one of the other teams. Or indeed if Wild Card entries will be withdrawn as a result.

It's going to be a fucking mess. Either some other WT gets shafted, or the ProConti teams who've got wildcards to races like the Giro get shafted. My money is on the latter.

I agree. I was thinking the UCI might expand their experiment of reduced teams to include all WT races and just add an extra team to the mix. That would be far too sensible though.

OK, so it's the start of the season proper this weekend. Omloop and K-B-K. First meeting of OPQS and Lotto sprint trains at the latter, assuming it isn't cancelled due to the weather.

So umm, yeah. Hills. And cobbles. And possibly snow.

Juergen Roelandts to win Omloop. Cav to win KBK.

Not sure if this deserves it's own thread, but figured here would do for now.

It would seem BSkyB are in talks with the organisers of the oft-touted World Series of Cycling. Last I saw this was going to be a series of four day races - one flat stage, one hilly, one TT etc. Load of bollocks basically. And ASO aren't involved according the article, but can't see that being a problem if Sky are aiming it at newer cycling nations. Could be horrible, frankly.

edit: Although obviously things like teams getting a share of TV money etc is a good move.

Sagan rode for Moser in Strade Bianchi today. Nice little one-two.

Paris-Nice starts tomorrow. TJVG, Gesink, Talansky and Porte will be fighting it out for GC imo. Interesting prologue though - only 3km long and quite technical. Have put a few sprinters in my fantasy team as I reckon they could be in amongst the TT specialists.

Yep. Good win by the young man with the best Nat Champ's jersey in the pro peloton. Tomorrow should be a good stage for him too.

Or he could crash out of the race. @ my predictions.

That looked like it hurt. A proper face-rearranging wallop.

Quite an odd crash too - he seemed to just lose control of his bike going around a pretty unremarkable corner. The kind of crash I'd expect from someone with my dismal bike handling skills rather than a top pro sprinter.

was just about to post a reply before your edit saying much the same thing. I used to do that all the time as a kid, although my hands and arms took the brunt rather than my face.

Although I thought one or two of the previous crashes looked like odd ones as well. Possibly a slick surface due to the rain?

Viviani for the win, or too steep? Wouldn't be surprised to see Chava take it on from far out.

Would anyone be surprised to hear that I swapped Kittel out of my fantasy cycling team yesterday? @ self.
