Bicycle Racing Thread 2013

The Giro is shit. All the best stages are reduced in length/height, the weather's so bad you can't see, and without me paying for some sort of subscription I have to watch a dodgy stream of it.

Bring on the Tour! :D

What??? After that last climb???

Reduction of stages: So what? Riders/teams have to improvise. Some do it well. Some do it like Sky.

Weather: should we put a roof on it? Tour de Velodrome for Sir Bradley?

Steaming is good...go to steephill.tv and follow the links. Always one that works well.

Sorry, I meant to reply to this and forgot.

I was only half-joking when I said the Giro is shit. It's obviously not, and it's obvious I don't think it is, otherwise I wouldn't be bothered about my difficulties in watching it!

I just wish it got the treatment of even the Vuelta, which is shown on ITV4, even if with not the same money/production thrown at it as the Tour. I like being able to watch the one hour highlights when the Tour's on.

The stuff I've seen on Steephill seems to be the entire race or 2 minutes highlights. Is there nothing in between?

Eurosport have an hour of highlights on every evening. Now, getting a stream of that might be more difficult than getting one of the stage live.

Speaking of Eurosport, their schedule this week has been little short of amazing. Live coverage of the Giro, California and Norway, plus highlights packages of all of them.

Agreed.

This weekend has been a major anti climax though. The race was heating up nicely , but Wiggins going has taken the wind out of its sale. Plus no footage from yesterday and today was just a cling on and don't lose time day - for everybody, it seemed. And GC looks fairly settled.

Bit of a shame.

That sounds great. I wish I could afford it :(

Eurosport player is 3 quid a month and lets you watch it on yer laptop. DOesn't work with Linux though.

If you sign up for a year, aye. I don't work at the minute so can't sign up for long contracts like that as I don't know what'll happen in the future. It's double that, I think, if you want a month by month thing.

Fair fucks. Was only mentioning it as it's a lot of folks don't realise you can get it without Sky/Virgin/whatevs package.

Yeah, I appreciate it!

I only found out recently. Due to this thread, actually! I wondered if you could buy a Eurosport only sub for Freeview and went to their site and saw the online only deal. So thanks for starting the thread as it's one of the first things I'll be buying when I get a job ;)

Anyway, enough derailing from me

*shuts up*
:)

About half the riders in the top 30-ish on GC seem to be in the break today. Think the only team who missed out are AG2R.

Break has about 4 minutes. I've stuck the last 55p in my bet365 account on Betancur e/w at 39.00. Stage has a hill in it which probably means he'll attack on the flat and finish second.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If Prudhomme follows through with his (not serious) threat to design a course made up of 21 middle-mountain stages I'll be a very happy man.

Sylvain George's B-sample returned positive. AG2R withdraw from Dauphiné, but some debate about whether they take part in Suisse.

Today's stage in Giro, with the lack of sprinters, should boil down to hill v Cav/OPQS. Most seem to be going for Cav, but I reckon hill wins. Especially since it's not certain that the two remaining mountain stages will go ahead as planned.

Well called. I had Cav in my fantasy team after getting burnt on another stage like this but wasn't sure.

Evans favourite for tomorrow? Sky guys may do well. Nibali favourite with bookies.

Can see Nibbles doing well, yeah. Evans will presumably want to do well, possibly as much as anything for his Red Jersey classification as anything else.

Niemiec e/w at 34.00. Not certain he'll do much tbh, but he never ceases to surprise these days.

edit: scratch that. he's available at 9.20 on Betfair for top 3 so taking that instead.

Well that pretty much ends the GC race, barring an act of God. There should be a bit of a scrap for the minor places still, but that's about it.

Just as well really, because this Giro nonsense was distracting from the really important race at the moment, the Ras.
