Bicycle Racing Thread 2013

Yeah, it's not just the weather (although I imagine he struggles with the cold anyway). Some of his cornering on the descents in the TT was nervous as fuck.

Fun to have a weird, out of nowhere, cycling performance that definitely isn't about drugs to talk about though. Unless he's tweaking.

The Guardian feed the other day said they'd heard a rumour he was suffering from the same stomach bug as another rider (can't remember the name) but that Sky were not announcing it for some reason....?

I was saying the same thing up until the middle section of the TT. On the flat part he was at his usual level, and he was second fastest up the final climb. Whatever is wrong with him is all in his head, imo.

Missing the good Dr Leinders. Plus the UCI announcing new tests for AICAR and GW-numbers. ;)

Disclaimer: This post is in no way serious.

Decent odds out there for Henao if anyone wants to take a punt on Sky throwing their weight behind him after rest day reflections....

Can't quite see it myself. Tempted though.

To be honest, the 7.0 or so available about Wiggins on Betfair looks like value to me. Assuming he's managed to get to grips with his inner Schleck chimp on his day off.

Anyone know the weather forecast for tomorrow? Some of the descents on the stage look a bit tasty:

Two Garmin riders (Millar, Dekker) in the Break of the Day, so either Ryder is going to try something or he's given up the ghost.

I can deal with Sky doing the whole metronome climbing thing for a while, but it's a lot more entertaining when their leader doesn't have it and they have to get a bit more creative. The Uran move was genuinely clever and he deserved the win.

Fair play to Wiggins for digging in and limiting his losses, but he's clearly not one of the best half dozen climbers here, and with the long ITT already gone that means it's very hard to see how he can win. It will be interesting to see if the team now make Uran leader or co-leader. On the evidence of the last few days, he has a better shot at making up time than Wiggins. Pity he lost some soft time looking after Bradley in earlier stages. What happened to Henao today by the way?

Hesjedal doesn't have the form at all, which is weird as this was his whole season's goal. Something's gone badly wrong there.

Evans on the other hand looks like he's serious. Main challenger to Nibali?

Majka looks great. I'm a bit surprised he wasn't saved for Contador's Tour squad if they knew he was climbing this well. I'm pretty dubious about Kreuziger, Rogers or Roche staying with that group.

Apparently Betancur (who has been just great this season) just told the Italian broadcasters that he was pissed off for Uran, who should have been team leader for Sky all along! Assuming that Uran's been moaning to his compatriot, that would lend a bit of weight to the rumours that Uran and possibly Henao will be leaving Sky asap.

Can't believe I had to go to work just as they were getting to the bottom of the descent. Looked a decent stage with some serious gaps behind the heads of state, and a few surprising names in about things.

Great to see Betancur up there. He really is having a belter of a year and is bound to pick up a big win at some point. Majka building nicely on least year's performance too. That said, I can't be the only one raising an eye at Niemiec this season can I? Especially when Scarpone returns to some sort of form too.

Nigel, pretty sure Uran had already signed elsewhere. Or at least I'd be surprised if the rumours aren't true.

edit: Also good to see Wiggins make it down a mountain without having to borrow a pair of bib-shorts from AG2R. :D

Heptaminol apparently. Withdrawn from race pending results of tests on B-sample.

More importantly, MPCC rules should see AG2R miss Dauphiné and Suisse.

Nothing - Long Drag - Nothing - Short Drag.

Nice win for Navardauskas, though I would rather have had yesterday as my day off. Not working Saturday though, so that's good.

I quite like both Navardauskas and Oss, so I wasn't sure which of them to cheer for. Great ride by RN. He's a pretty handy climber for a guy who won a long sprint a couple of weeks ago and who spends most of his time riding on the front on the flat.

Hesjedal arrived with the Cav group. Whatever the hell is wrong with him, it isn't getting better. Other than Intxausti sneaking back into the top 10 with an opportunist attack at the end, zero happened in the GC.
