So now this year is almost over, what were your 'best ofs' for 2006?

Album - Pearl Jam by Pearl Jam, I had never really heard PJ until this year when I met my man and I didn't know what I was missing! A fine album from a band who don't just release music for the sake of it.
Gig - Pearl Jam @ Reading Festival, a brilliant moment and a headliner I feel Reading will never better.
Festival - Thimbleberry (June), because it was just odd and strange and I went with fab people, I don't know what music was on, but who cares!!:D

I smell another 27-page 'pearl jam are fucking shit' thread...

And rightly so, coz pearl jam are fucking shit:D

personally i think that vitalogy and no code are good records. *dons flame-proof suit*

Me too.

And Vs. and I couldn't give a toss what anyone thinks.

:)

Best album - C-Mon & Kypski's "Where The Wild Things Are"

Best gig - Doomtree Blowout in Minneapolis. Best show I've ever been to ever.

Best festival - Scribble Jam in Ohio. Awesome.

Does this have to be a new album? Coz I've only bought, err, one album that was released this year.

As for a gig, I'll go for the pixies at Nyon in Switzerland. T'was mighty.

/goes to look for clip of Hole playing live where courtney love demands that a guy at the front of the crowd removes his pearl jam tshirt.

well they had 1 or 2 good albums, which puts them (counts on fingers) 1 or 2 good albums ahead of fucking Pearl Jam

Opinion. :p

Personally, I thought they were absolutely nothing more than grunge also-rans, but there you go.

e2a: I did like some records this year. I might even mention them later... :D

Not referring to anyone here, but I reckon Hole mainly get slagged because of good old fashioned schoolboy indie kid sexism. They like women to be firmly in the background.

Fucking youtube is down. The clip is a corker.

I think you're probably right, as it goes. There've been threads before where it's descended into a row about whether it's allowable to slag Courtney or not. Personally, I like to think that I'd have survived as long as she has, given the same situations.

However, that's not the issue in this case, it's a purely musical thing. I thought you'd chosen to attack an dreadful band (iyo) with another of the same (imo).

Awww, I'm all concillatory today. That's not right...

Cunts.

:D

damn right. Plus all the usual 'courtney was a talentless parasite who killed our beloved Kurt' bullshit

Iam said:

of course it's opinion, you pony-tailed doofus :p

do we really have to start suffixing all our fucking posts in the music forum with 'in my opinion', or can we take that as a given?

hippy

Pearl Jam - basically MOR stadium rock band in 'alternative' clothing.

Hole - fucking cracking band who sound even better now. Celebrity Skin is an awesome record.

As others have said, she would get a lot more credit than she currently does if some idiots still didn't see her as the ex Cobain.

I find it odd that Billy Corgan wrote a lot of Celebrity Skin, but it pisses over anything the Pumpkins did post Siamese Dream.

Pearl Jam sound like Hootie and The Blowfish.

I've always thought that like INXS, it was a case of good singer, utterly useless band. Can anyone name any members apart from Mr.Vedder? I can't.
