BBC Eric Gill paedo statue attacked

I do have concerns that the issue has been hijacked by the conspiracy-right. And I do see a difference between this statue and the Colston statue. But neither of those points are enough to make me want to defend the nonce allegory.
You say hijacked but the left arent doing anything about it. half the left or more in this country still think of the bbc as a treasured institution we must defend at all costs.

What aren't the left doing anything about; the BBC or paedophilia or incest? Or something else?

So for at least 30 years and possibly nearly 60 his depravity has been known about

Thirty anyway - IIRC his estate had actively suppressed publication/access to his most damming papers but once his archive moved to the US, historians were able to get it opened-up properly for research but it took a while.

In the same period, interest in the Arts and Crafts movement refocused on less problematic/rapacious artists.

No, indeed, the left aren’t doing anything about it. In fact I don’t feel any kinship with “the left”. The revolutionary libertarian left is tiny (my broader milieu). The liberal left will defend the statue and the BBC. The authoritarian left is too busy defending its own sex offenders. There’s no coherent “left” to be a part of.

But I do take the point that no libertarian communist group tried to dispose of the statue. Frankly that’s because we have limited resources and this is way down our to do list.

What’s nearer the top at the moment?

Phil Collins the artist not the former lead singer of Genesis they are two separate people

No matter:

Third Citizen
Your name, sir, truly.
CINNA THE POET
Truly, my name is Cinna.
First Citizen
Tear him to pieces; he's a conspirator.
CINNA THE POET
I am Cinna the poet, I am Cinna the poet.
Fourth Citizen
Tear him for his bad verses, tear him for his bad verses.
CINNA THE POET
I am not Cinna the conspirator.
Fourth Citizen
It is no matter, his name's Cinna; pluck but his
name out of his heart, and turn him going.
Third Citizen
Tear him, tear him! Come, brands ho! fire-brands:

An educational thread. I won't be using Gill's fonts any more. Eric Gill « MyFonts And I can't enjoy Graham Linehan's stuff because of his bile. Watching Father Ted feels like supporting him. Similar problem with Gary Glitter. I still like the Smiths though. I just pretend that Morrissey is insane and to be pitied.

On behalf of the left, I'd like to apologise for not getting right onto the issue of this particular statue and taking decisive action against it as a matter of the highest urgency. We should all have listened to discokermit when he first brought the matter to our attention all the way back in five fucking minutes ago.

Yeah, I loved Father Ted too. :(

Maybe when someone makes something good, we should have them executed before they get a chance to disgrace themselves.

Father Ted was co-written, so you can just make out it's the other guy's jokes you're laughing at.

That is actually the exact strategy I've been using - I've become quite an Arthur Mathews fan.

Though Arthur Mathews is a good friend of Graham Linehan tbf and I have to then create ad hoc statutes of limitations...
