One of the advantages of Linux is that you *can* remove core pieces of the desktop manager if you really, really want to. Though there's no guarantee the desktop manager will work.

This can be a disadvantage when put in the hands of a newbie with super-user access...

iPods aren't cheap on the apple store. Amazon hammers them into the floor.

Not for refurbs they don't (which is what I was talking about). Quid cheaper from Apple than even the scabby Marketplace sellers.

The Apple store isn't usually a place of much cheapness (apart from refurbed Macs and iPods) so even with 20% off it might not be terribly competitive but worth checking.

May not be worth it with iPods, but 20% is probably a useful discount for Macs as very few dealers are going to be that much cheaper than Apple.

I suspect there's more margin for the retailer built into the SRP for iPods. I know that a few years ago the dealer only made less than £20 on a new iMac selling for nearly £700.
