Alright people, off to Antwerp for a stag doo this weekend.

Any recommendations?

Places to eat?

Places to drink?

Cheers in advance

I've only been to Antwerp once and that was to meet a very nice guy I met on the internet, had a great time, very friendly people so from that point of view I can recommend it.

This was clearly a novel destination !

I'd like to ask the question again, luckily no stag do to ordeal though.

It’s the cocaine capital of Europe, I shit you not.

the centre is compact so you’ll find whatever you like by having a few beers and a mooch. Avoid the industrial estate that I got lost in and spent three hours trying to get out of...

Very much this. We went in 2012 and did a lot of mooching/having a few beers. Some lovely old architecture and decent bars, slightly Amsterdam brown café style IIRC.

One thing I would recommend, strange though it sounds, is the Sint Anna foot tunnel. You walk through a slightly Art Deco-ish tunnel for about twenty minutes, come out on the other side and get the most amazing view of the city.

We stayed near the zoo and tried to go there but apart from the first evening we had mainly shit weather :( and it wasn't worth it - all the animals seemed to be in their little houses (you can go to a preliminary bit without buying a ticket, IIRC).

The weather was so shit that we stayed in the hotel for an entire afternoon. Luckily, we got a good deal at the Radisson which has a spa so I was there all afternoon. My OH, despite being a republican, ended up watching the Queen's Jubilee on the massive TV in the room. :D That's how shit the weather was.

Hopefully you won't get shit weather. Chouf beer (with a gnome on the label) is readily available and very good, though somewhat strong.

MAS muséum on the waterfront is good and the train station is spectacular.

Also enjoyed the tour of the De Koninck brewery. But the best bit for me was just walking round the Zurenborg district - fantastic Art Nouveau architecture. Cogels-Oselei (sp?) is the best street - can catch a tram from the city centre

Went about 10 years ago, loads of lovely bars and lovely beer! I remember looking at the Timeout guide and they recommended a bar (can't remember what it's called now) but they said it was a literary bar , where frustrated heavily moustached, depressed Belgian writers like to hang out - the guide was absolutely correct:D

Haven't been for years but loved it. Of course the beers are fantastic and highly recommended
