Adrian Childs horrible commentary this morning

He should be sent home for bad sportsmanship and just being a dick. If he was a retired athlete or sportsman of note I would dismiss his comments as just stupidity but Childs does not have that excuse.

This morning they were talking about Katie Hoff, that US lass who has not done as well as she hoped, and Childs was bagging and making fun of her, saying 'surely she has to win some medal, something' and guffawing. A right prick. It was comments and his attitude that wanted me to write to BBC and ask what the hell he is doing there. It was an ugly incident.

He's a dickhead.
I didn't think much of the BBC letting him don a Croatia shirt and watch the match with other half-Croatians in a bar - while getting paid for it.
He has a chip on both shoulders that guy and could feasibly be as big a cunt as Inverdale but luckily I've met neither of them.

What's wrong with that?! It made for a nice angle on the game, loads of people in England have split loyalties every time a game's played, it's the nature of our society.

Yeah and all sorts of nationalities live in Britain (the BBC broadcasts beyond England). You never see a commentator in an England shirt.
Fat cunt gets paid for that by us.

And it's CHILES

Didn't see the bit we're on about so difficult to judge really. Generally speaking though he's a refreshing change from the usual presenters and pundits, he's a genuine enthusiast who gives the impression he can't believe he's getting paid to go to all these top sporting events. I prefer that to the arrogant sods who act like it's their perfect right to be there.

I'm speaking with specific reference to an England game, which is why I said England :)

He's not a commentator, he's a presenter who is paid to produce stories and/or interviews which the BBC believe will be of interest to the viewing public. I'm interested in how an England v Croatia match will be seen by people with roots in both countries, I'm not surprised the BBC took the opportunity to use the fact they have someone on their payroll who can give an informed insight into this.

It's better than watching Alan bloody Shearer fail to say anything of interest

I see what you mean as he was great and infectious on radio, but the more and more he becomes established at the BBC TV on both sport and current affairs, he is starting to get to be an arrogant prick like the rest of them.
An affable Brummie/Bromwich accent can make up for a lot of crap

You may have a point with that.

Generally though I enjoy his MOTD2 show far more than that smug prat Lineker on the main one. Dixon and Peacock are far better than Hansen and Shearer too.

Surely Chiles deserves a place in greatness for his handling of Tony Blair:

It was the question about the Scots, specifically his next-door neighbour, and Britons not supporting England which drew the most interesting response. The PM said he could not understand the antipathy the Scots and the Welsh have for the England football team (where has he been?). He felt that you could support a team without necessarily hating your rivals. "As a Newcastle Uni'ed suppawer," he said, "I would be ri' behind Sunderland if they go' into Europe [Come on now, Prime Minister, be serious] and I'm sure, Adrian, if Aston Villa were in a big European final, you would suppaw them, wouldn't you?" Chiles (a West Brom fan) gasped at the very suggestion."Er no," was his answer. And so, in a stroke, were the Prime Minister's credentials as a football fan destroyed."

I like Chiles, hes a good lad. Many years ago I used to watch Working Lunch just because of him.

I'm not sure from the opening post what his crime is? Taking the piss out of someone for not winning?

Apparently so but based purely on what the OP said, I'm not even sure he did that. Seems a little inconclusive to me - it could easily have been incredulity at the expected medal haul failing to materialise.

Yeah those three are much better than the whores representing Walker's Crisps, Morrison's and McDonalds.

I mean am I watching a football show or an advert?

Lee Dixon is great - he's a Citeh fan

He always comes across well to me - I tend to watch the Apprentice programme he presents rather than The Apprentive itself. Likewise he seems amusing and affable on MOTD2

Also Mr. QofG's loved his book on West Brom - found it a very funny and moving study of being a football fan

He took the piss and was nasty and laughing at this girl who is 19 and in her 2nd Olympics (she was just a kid at the 2004 ones). Sure she may have foolishly predicted she would win many gold but she is 19 and people can be indiscreet at that age. It was just the sight of Chiles putting her down and laughing at her (it came thru in his attitude) when he has no sporting achievements. It smacked of arrogance.

Anyone find any links so we can judge for ourselves?

I don't think his sporting achievements or otherwise are relevant tbh

Do you have a green pen?

I think he's brilliant. He's a proper (pre-Euro'96/Italia'90) football fan and sport fan, with an excellent knowledge of both current affairs and business (which I don't give a toss about, but fair play), as demonstrated on Working Lunch and his excellent Saturday morning R5L show of a few years back.

He also got asked to apply for a job at MI5 after he graduated
