Yes it's got an odd atmosphere of faded grandeur around there.

I'm assuming that 'submarine forest' is the petrified tree stumps. We've a load around there - Mounts Bay was a forest back in prehistoric times. It got flooded - some talk of a giant tsunami that created the bay/turned St Michaels Mount from a hill into an island

Bit off-topic, I know, sorry, the really old history around here is the bit I read around. :D

Not quite relevant to the thread title but near as damnit is to swearing and this is all lovely:



A wonderfully restored and colourized film about beautiful Cornwall in the UK more than a century ago in 1916 (silent film). The film title is "The Cornish Riviera" by Kineto ltd. London. We see spectacular film footage of: Looe, Polperro, Fowey, Newquay, Falmouth, The Lizard, St.Ives, Penzance, St.Michaels Mount, Morrab Gardens, Logan Rock, Lands End, Caves, Allan Valley, Padstow and Boscastle. Timeline:

The Kernewek name for the Mount is Karrek Loos yn Koos, meaning rock in woodland (but you already knew that ;) )

I miss the carriages, but was glad to see them rescued before it was too late.

Very idyllic at 1:20. A lot of the other shots look to me like they’re setting the scene for something absolutely horrific, though.

To be fair, it was the middle of WWI...
