A plea from a student

the B

Sorry
;) Not really the same kind of thread though... :)

What is so bad about students? The school and university kind that is.
Why do so many teachers and non-teachers vilify them?

Can you give us some examples of this vilification?

It isn't linked to the boards. Hence this thread being rather different from treefrogs. Rather, there is a general feeling that the yout'[h] are all verging on being criminal scum who need to be ASBO'd, locked up, have it easy, are idle scroungers etc.

But not their own little darlings in school/elsewhere. Of course.

Evidence for this 'general feeling', please. A few examples from your own experience will do.

Pubs going for a 21+ entrance policy, which on asking, was specifically to keep out 'students'. (Those evil blood suckers)

The gearing of all student nights at venues to be as cheesey, grotty, second-rate and cheap as possible.

I'll come up with others if really needed...

Most pubs don't operate 21+ policies.

Students go to cheap events, because they haven't got much spare cash, don't they? That's how it was in my day.

Go on, then. You haven't been very persuasive yet.

Many pubs do.

Googling student scum brings up a lot of suitable results...
All I got from that was a lot of what looked like blogs/rants about my bad experience with students therefore all sudents are scum.

At presetnI think you should find more concrete examples possibly from major media outlets, because at the moment this looks like a copycat thread/variation on the same theme.

I reckon there's been a definite effort to eliminate the academy as a base of political power and cultural capital. The 'publish or die' culture, strain on funding, emphasis on vocational training rather than learning per se, general social antagonism towards students - as lazy scroungers in general, but with particular animosity if they involve themselves in political causes etc are all part of the effort to prevent a repeat of the events leading up to '68.

Its quite simple most students are young .There out doing stuff for the first time .Which everyone else is either too old to do .or have done it and are now bored with and are too busy earning a crust bringing up kids etc .To care about students .
The students are revolting ! tell us something new :) .
if you dont like it get a job.

It's because we're jealous. I wish I was back at uni talking bollocks with my mates down the union at 2pm on a Tuesday. Instead I have to work for a living. Therefore students are bastards.

I think it's to do with students thinking they know it all about whichever subject it is they are studying, and life in general, and talking a tremendous amount of bollocks as a result

We students are bollocks. Instead of studying for our German oral exam tomorrow, we sit in the pub and then come home too pissed to work.

That's what makles us special. :)

students are wankers. everyone knows that. even students generally hate students. stupid know it all cunts.

i miss being a student. :(

but I do know everything about my subject!

Local communities typically don't like them because they turn up, are often a pain in the arse, then after a few years disappear again, having contributed and got involved in very little. I'm not saying this is entirely right - I dunno what we're expected to do, but to some extent it's justifiable.

A lot of students are twats. I study with them.
