My mate works at a fashion company. She sent To a whole pile of people, some friends, some from my football team and email offering free samples from the collection. I kind of sneered. What would you think if someone sent you an email saying 'we have some sample clothe - tell me your size and I will bring you a couple of pieces'

Would be keen or insulted, or think they were a bit sad?

Aren't samples like seconds or faulty?

No. (And you've just answered my subsequent question :D ). What they are, are the clothes that are made up from the designs, in order to sell the range to wholesalers, retailers etc. They have to be made up to the exact spec as would be sold in the outlets, otherwise the distributors wouldn't buy them - if you see what I mean.

I would grateful that they thought of me, glad that they were passing things on to friends and keen.
Why you would sneer at a kind gesture is beyond me.

I son't know but then again I don't understand people so i thought I'd check with urban. the people who got the email are all working folk.

I would print out the email, wipe my arse with it and send it by first class courier to this fashion house, I mean, how very fucking dare they?!

Maybe, in future, if you're not sure how to respond you should say nothing. I think you'll find people have a lot more patience those who are unsure than for those who are rude.

I think most people would be excited and feel very lucky to be considered tbh chuck. Be a bit snooty to be offended ;)

This.

A few years ago the owner of the factory I worked in turned up with some clothes his sons had had and hardly worn and offered them around. Loads of the lads were offended, feeling they were being treated like charity cases. Me - I got a couple of nice polo shirts and a lumberjack shirt, all very useful for work. Didn't see the problem.

Personally I would have been pleased but if your mates and football team got these emails I'm unsure as to why you didn't ask them for their opinions and as to whether they had any interest in the samples or not? If you think it's 'sad', as you say - just a quick - hi what did you think of so and so's email would have been enough without you committing yourself as to if it was 'sad' or not iyswim.

My mate said some folk didn;t even reply. I mean free designer gear! FFS. Bunch of saddo's. it's the thought that counts spose. I took 2 pieces to keep myself in. It is a nice gesture.
