Hak Sacked

I thought a resignation might follow the catastophic xmas fixtures. If you lose to a bottom of the table side playing with ten men for most of the game it suggests that you are 23rd in a 22 team table. Danny Mills as player manager I hope

More of a 'forum lurker' than a match-going fan nowadays, but it seems a real key for the Hamlet is to have the football expertise in-house to make the right hire.

Since Gavin left, and whether rightly or wrongly in terms of how the partnership was weighted, we have not had access to the ASPIRE Academy which let Dulwich tap-in to local talent. Maybe that was easier in Isthmian Premier and League 1 level than the NLS where it is difficult to blood youngsters.

Managerial recruitment in January of a season where relegation is still a possibility is tricky without a ready-made plan and as Pink Panther mentioned on another thread, the Hamlet do not have a Reserve or Youth manager to step in.

Good managers, even if in a league below or with Dulwich paying more than where they currently earn their keep, might want to wait until end-season.

Are there experienced players in the current squad who have coaching badges?

Turns out you only need Level 1 to manage non league so must be a few

I'm not convinced Millsy is the answer. On the field he seems to be more of a leader by example. We need a strong character with some experience who can come in to galvanise the current group of players and give them a fresh sense of purpose. (I bet the social media know alls will be touting Steve King as a shoo-in as soon as they hear of the vacancy, but I'm 99% certain he won't be considered.)

After the Cray Valley defeat, when 4-2 probably flattered us, I felt we needed a bare minimum 5 points (a win and 2 draws), from the other 4 games. The Boxing Day win was encouraging, but 3 consecutive defeats after that, two of them against bottom 4 sides playing a man short after we'd taken the lead, seemed to be the final straw.

I wondered whether Hak might get one last chance at home to Folkestone, then if he blew that his replacement would get a "free hit" at Billericay with no real pressure to win against serious title contenders who remain unbeaten at home.

I'm still perplexed that he managed to build such a consistently successful team based on a tight defence at Maidstone in their National South title winning season. Our forwards barely got a sniff in either game, a 0-0 draw at home and a 2-0 hammering away.

We were tight at home in that fag end of the relegation season, but poor away from and a couple of heavy defeats at Chelmsford and Dartford cost us. Once he'd assembled his own squad everything seemed so haphazard. There seemed to be a lot of "stick it in the mixer", relying on a few flair players to capitalise upon the chaos, but leaving us vulnerable to the counterattack.

We need someone who know this level of football and has enjoyed success at it. I think it was said before Hak's preferred style of football was more suited to the level above where strength and speed are more of a factor . At this level you see more lighter skillfull players who roam around the pitch and find it easy to move into gaps between our midfield and defence. We seemed hung up on the idea that Wanadio and Jeffery are our 2 best players so they must play and everything goes through them. Every team we played knew this and worked out to beat the system.

Hak seemed genuinly passionate about the club and the fans, always standing up for us in the interviews but at the end of the day we need a different approach on the pitch.

As much as I love Mills, I think we need someone with experience

Steve King is a parasite, if it's him god help us!

Steve McKimm is an obvious candidate with previous time at Dulwich as a player and success in this league and above and below. Whether he could be persuaded to leave the CVPM project is another matter . Imagine he is good wages as I was surprised he dropped down to their level before last season.

One thing that did irritate me was him and his teams constantly harranging the Assistant Ref at our game and then pointing out the score to Dulwich fans but having said that we were getting a few dubious decisions ....which didnt help the end result!!

Maybe Tony Russell until the end of the season? Think he's available after his (less than a) month at Ramsgate last Summer. On record as being a fan of community stuff too, and a SE London lad.

Won promotion to the Premier Division with VCD Athletic a decade ago and kept them up against the odds, then moved to Cray Wanderers and took them back into the Premier Division after several seasons, before moving to Lewes when I think they'd already just got back to the Premier Division. I get the impression he didn't quite punch his weight there, playing attractive football but just missing out on the play-offs 3 years running with a top 5 budget.

Other experienced managers who seem to be available include Alan Dowson (sacked by Dartford around this time last season) and Bobby Williamson, who kept Weymouth up at our expense 2 years ago and was recently sacked by Hemel Hempstead. Both have won promotions with various clubs, but perhaps a bit too similar to Hak for style of play, and I'm not sure I'd see either as a long term solution.

I wonder whether we might try to headhunt someone already in a job this time. The trouble is the lack of anyone suitable to act as caretaker for a couple of matches if it takes a week or so to land the right man. The only option looks to be Millsy if that's the case, who did it with Jack Holland for one game when Gavin & Junior left. Hopefully we already have a shortlist that includes at least one realistic candidate who is known to be amenable, even if he hasn't yet been tapped up as such.

Think this makes sense, but is a shame. The start of the season was promising, and it seemed like Hak had built a solid team which moved the ball about well, and had well drilled and executed passages of play. Some of the football in September and October were the most exciting I've seen Dulwich play for a good few seasons.

But come the winter we got found out time and again. We had injuries to some key players, but even when they were back we didn't always look solid, especially at the back. I hope this allows the club to begin building a more positive approach.

Peter Adenyi please.

Knows the club. Loved when he played here. Has done a decent job at Carshalton, but not pulled up trees (not sure of budget size there). Crucially for me though, he will have great connections across south London and I'm sure that would attract players... including Nyren.

(Nyren looked fit as a fiddle on NYD for Cray Wanderers - spoke to the manager after and he said he's as fit as an 18 year old and he would never let him go. Whereas when I spoke to Nyren, he said "yes" enthusiastically it ever an opportunity to come back arose).

Mark Marshall could help out as a senior player? Hayrettin regularly mentioned he used him for advice.

Yes, I thought of him after I'd posted. He hasn't caught my eye as being especially vocal on the pitch, possibly because he plays out on the wing. He's very much the senior pro in the squad, aged 37 with a lengthy Football League career behind him. He also seems to be highly regarded by everyone I've heard say anything about him as a person, including fans of some of his previous clubs.
