The images are repulsive. A group of rogue US Army soldiers in Afghanistan killed innocent civilians and then posed with their bodies. On Monday, SPIEGEL published some of the photos -- and the US military responded promptly with an apology. Still, NATO fears that reactions in Afghanistan could be violent.

Promoting democracy lol

And I thought Sarah Palin gave Wasilla, Alaska a bad name.

Court Hears of U.S. Unit Killing Afghan Civilians at Random

Top Army officials worry that the case against Specialist Morlock and four other soldiers accused in the killings of three Afghan civilians will undermine efforts to build relationships with Afghans in the war against the Taliban.

The soldiers are accused of possessing dismembered body parts, including fingers and a skull, and collecting photographs of dead Afghans. Some images show soldiers posing with the dead. As many as 70 images are believed to be in evidence.
Specialist Morlock claims in that article that he was just following orders.

How old was that farmers kid they killed and bravely posed next to?

And why the fuck do they wonder why nobody loves the US anymore?

out of 100 soldiers in combat 98 are just making the numbers up
1 is a true warrior
the other is a pyscopath and is really really enjoying himself:(
Some of the US squaddies I met seemed much more naive then even Britsh squaddies and we had some real mouth breathers:(. get a Junior NCO whose a pyscopath and he's likely to have up to 8 willing accomplainces and once they commit one horror well they are all in it together now.

I wonder when the US DoD is going to order it's soldiers not to take self-incriminating photographs & videos of warcrimes?

well as these murders are now facing life or the death penalty under US military justice in part because of their photos and videos I doubt it.

One of them pleads out in a deal that will get him less than 24 years. Usually that kind of deal involves rolling over on the others. Classy.

The really interesting part of the story is that they were turned in by one of the soldier's parents:

After the January killing, platoon member Spc. Adam Winfield of Cape Coral, Fla., sent Facebook messages to his parents saying that his fellow soldiers had murdered a civilian and were planning to kill more. Spc. Winfield said his colleagues warned him not to tell anyone.

Spc. Winfield's father alerted a staff sergeant at Lewis-McChord, south of Seattle, but no action was taken until May, when a witness in a drug investigation in the unit reported the deaths.
