Brixton - surely the best place for great free nights out in London?

OK, I'm a little lubricated right now, but I've lived all around London and can't think of anywhere where you'd get this assortment of free, 'scene'-free entertainment.

Tonight's roll call:

1. JAMM for IanW's four band free indie night
2. Rest Is Noise for some indie band who manfully battled against their dreadful PA system
3. Albert for a very noisy Iggy Pop-esque rock band
4. Dogstar for vast amounts of drinking and dancing

.. and apparently there was a free night at the Windmill too.

There can't be many places that offer that much free entertainment on a Thursday night, no?

I'd agree that brixton has a lot to offer at the moment - don't forget Grosvenor and Hootananny (though not sure if they had anything free on for Thursday.)

I don't know if it's a sign of the times or just something that Brixton does, but I do know that I wouldn't be doing a free night if it wasn't for Offline. I basically ripped off the idea of Offline for my night and just changed the type of music/DJs etc. I even said that to Jamm when I asked them if I could do my night, and they went for it because Offline is a success. Maybe the fact that Offline is packing them in at the Albert makes venues in Brixton more willing to put on free nights?

Anyway, our night rocked last night, and I'm paying for it massively now. I'm glad I didn't know you were in the Dogstar because I might have gone there after we'd left Jamm at 12.30...

We had a hoot at the Dogstar and drinking was the order of the day, and now I'm paying for it big time!

And free Jazz at The Effra as ever!

Oh errr.. I've just had another fucking great big night out in Brixton (Albert/Dogstar) with a lovely mix of people - on a Wednesday, ffs!

He WAS that site.

new one looks swanky tho, i like the little pics when u rollover the listings. good work.

I do kind of miss him and the lo-speed windmill but the new site works a lot better. I can give bands an individual link to their show and there's all sorts of scope with it and there's NO flash.
Anyway coming up the hill for some free honky tonking? we can discuss the City/United game last night...that'll take all of ten seconds.

I've got a date but yeh might see if she wants a little dance after dinner. i had a quid on the 0-0 btw. small mercies.
