A Ramshackle Coalition

Shevek

bldg cstles in the sky
Labour/Lib Dem/SNP/Plaid/Alliance NI/SDLP/Greens

for electoral reform and delayed cuts.

any takers

any coalition is going to be ramshackle tbf

I'd just prefer the Tories to get in, try and run the government as a minority party, Brown needs to stop hanging about - the Tories won't be able to govern because no one apart from a few Unionists want to work with them. They won't be able to pass anything, will keep losing votes (lol) will get frustrated and call another election, to give the people the opportunity to choose a stable government. It might be difficult for Cameron to call an early election, once his ministers get used to ministerial life, they won't want to give it up after a few months after waiting all that time

but the risk is we then get a Tory majority

people will have seen Tories in ministerial positions and got very scared that they might be there for a long time if the idiots actually had a majority - and vote accordingly for other idiots

Only those who didn't want Tory to begin with. Those who did might just blame the fact that they didn't get a high enough majority, blame the sniping opposition. Then the Tories get the vote out.

It's a huge gamble - it's not as cut and dry as saying everyone will realise the Tories are twats.

Still look on the bright side, this year is going to be quite the political education for some.

It is a gamble, I know it's not as cut and dry as that (Tories are twats though tbf)

are you talking @ me?

Imagine If I was prime-minister!! I would democratise the media. Turn the Murdoch press into a set of workers co-op's .

Yes I was engaging in some light teasing. Anyways it could be me that gets the political education this week, Ive made all sorts of assumptions that may not turn out to be the case.

but you wouldn't. it's a really tough job to facilitate/get people to co operate. i wish i had more skill/savvy to do this.

And the instant Brown is replaced Labour will climb a few points in the polls.

It would be a disaster, even if Labour were to ditch Brown. The Lib- Lab coalition would be slaughtered in the rightwing press, people would turn against Labour for clinging on to power, and anything they tried to do - such as a referendum on PR - would be tainted and liable to be defeated by protest votes.

Far better for Labour to accept the voters verdict, bow out of office with what remains of their credibility intact, let the Cameron-Clegg shotgun wedding run its course hoping that they can benefit from peoples anger against a Tory cuts programme, and reposition themselves for a second general election.

Why would they turn against them for clinging to power after just voting for them to hold onto power? You mean lib-dems and tories would turn against labour. Oh no!

yeah lol. Brown is now a caretaker not a squatter.

This job should have gone to John Reid.

Clegg clearly wants a coalition with the Tories. Whether there is enough support within the LDs is unclear. Brown can do little but sit back and let them sort it out amongst themselves whilst gently reminding them electoral reform is there on the plate if they want it.
