NME Radio.

I've been listening to NME Radio all this week and it seems like a decent alternative to 6Music and XFM. Plus for all the DAB radio owners in London, it's now live on DAB since last month.

Despite the NME being a tiresome indie rag itself which I haven't bought a copy of for donkeys years - the radio station isn't doing bad in it's attempt to be the anti-XFM (it was set up by Sammy Jacob who founded XFM and there's a few ex-XFM DJs too). Certainly it's been making my week a lot happier by not having to listen to Steve Lamacq or Nemone on 6Music. There seems to be significantly less ads and jingles than XFM too.

Taking a look at the playlist, it looks a lot like they're going for the original XFM market from back in the day. Check it:

I've been so impressed with NME radio this week. It's just like the old days of XFM.

They're now playing Radiohead 'Lurgee'

Shame it's not on FM though it's appearance on DRg London on DAB is very welcome, it's a decent mix of new stuff and more well known groups, though often not the most obvious choices from the established groups. Far better than the blandfest on 104.9, and free of Lamb

Oh jeez, don't even get me started on XFM these days.

NME radio has been a welcome ray of sunshine in my office. You're right though, it's a shame it only seems to be on DAB in London. Besides the music, what I like is the way they don't have tons and tons of ads. Just the odd few so sparsely, I hardly even notice.

BUMP

Just a note to all non-london heads. NME Radio has now gone nationwide.

Give it a try if you're bored of BBC 6Music in the day.

I listen to it on shoutcast on my htpc at home and my laptop at work. It has more or less stopped me from downloading in order to hear new stuff.
Usually some classic songs (Bunnymen, Pixies etc) mixed in with new stuff as well.
