Cleaners demo at Schroders, London, Fri 17 oct at 1pm

In Bloom

Joyless and full of hate
Schroders is a global asset management company with £130.2 billion (EUR 164.4 billion / $259.1 billion) under management as at 30 June 2008.

But they are only paying the cleaners only £6 an hour.

The cleaners are trying to get a pay rise for over 12 months, for all this period our management (Lancaster Cleaning Company) keep promising an increase and stop 3 times the cleaners demonstrate in front of Schroders head quarter base on the promises.

We had been congratulating for our good job but congratulations don't pay ours bills.

Now we have been told that not only will we not received the London living wage but also will lose our jobs because Schroders want a night shift to replace our 4 hrs part time shift. And reduce the staff from 30 workers to 9 workers.

We are appealing to the all the Londoners to help us stop this injustice supporting our demonstration in front of Schroders Head Quarters: 31 Gresham Street, London EC2V 7QA on Friday 17 October 2008 at 1pm.

You can also send you letter of support to our email: shroderscleaners4justice@live.com

We want to thanks YOU in advance for any support.

Sincerely
Cleaners from Schroders
Am in London that day, so I may come along to this myself for a bit. This kind of stuff is really important, it's a fucking outrage that cleaners in some of the most expensive parts of the country are paid so little.

Shouldn't the demo be against the cleaning company? Idon'tgedddit  (I am willing to be that Schroders play the cleaning company a lot more than 6 quid an hour!!)

The individual cleaners aren't employed by Schroders are they?

There was a surprising amount of concern about the plight of cleaners shown by the city types on here on the recent Lehmans thread, I trust they'll all be attending this demo ;)

At a guess (I'm just passing this on from elsewhere), their intention is probably to put pressure on Schroders, thereby putting pressure on the cleaning company by proxy. Fair enough if you ask me, there's a reason companies like Schroders spend the extra money to get agency staff in, rather than just hiring cleaners directly.

Maybe they are -what's the betting the people involved will have looked into it though? There's a long tradition of embarssing the overall employers into forcing the contractors into better conditions. Just google janitors for justice LA

Are you suggesting that the cleaning workers campaigning for higher pay at Schroders and the London Socialist Worker Student Society are one in the same?

You exceptionally silly twat :D

fair point. one is a bunch of middle class students. probably never cleaned up after themsleves ever. still a bit silly not to take action directly

post on the LCAP list. Apparently most of the cleaners can only make it at 1pm and decided to change the time. I've amended a few "ads" I put out on various fora but it is sadly very last minute (although understandable, perhaps).
