The EU vs The Super-Rich

Over and over it seems that the Super-Rich easily able to avoid paying their fair ax rate thru playing one EU nation against another, moving to the member state which provides the easiest life.

Until now, the EU has started a campaign to harmonise the tax rates so that they can tax them fairly.

Is this a good thing?

Might it be that only the EU will have the power to address issues which national governments find impossible to address?

Maybe we will finally recognise how small our influence is becoming in this globalised world, and how necessary it is to cooperate?

The UK is in the EU and despite that ignores most of the progressive stuff from Europe, like more holidays, increased pensions etc.

Anyway, what's the problem with the European Union declaring war on tax havens for the rich? It's in the news today that a number of companies involved with PFI have moved their accounts off-shore. That will mean the UK taxpayer, having met the cost of funding the set-up of these PFI contracts, will now not be able to reap any benefit back in from taxing the profits.

It would seem that the knee-jerk anti EU wing would prefer that the Super-Rich get away with this rather than support the EU...

That's amazing, I thought I was the only pro-EU on U75

It would seem eminently sensible to cooperate as a strong group rather than an insignificant island of little or no power. As a member of a 27 country alliance we could do a lot more, yet people here seem unable to engage and try and lead the EU in a constructive direction!

I think the mistake those on the far left (ie U75) make is that they think leaving the EU will allow for a more socialist society to be created. It won't. It will lead to a much more right wing economy than we have now. The reason for this mistake is that the left believe the EU is primarily a free-trade area promoting capitalist ideals. Its not and never has been. Coupled with the idea of a free market has always been the dual aim of creating a "social market" where the citizens would be protected from the harshness of unfetted capitalism. Most of our workers rights come from the EU and if the Tories got back in they will opt out of them (and people say Labour is as right wing as the Tories!)

It is national revenue services that have been getting hold of off shore bank details and launching tax investigations (Anglo Irish, Liechtenstein etc) seems to be workjing OK)
Super rich avoid tax through non residency looking at the map you could turn the world into 6 Supernations (EU, NAFTA derivitive, South Amecian Union, African Union, ASEAN derivitive, Soviet derivitive) and they could still rotate thorugh the six for 60 days a year as opposed to cuerrent system where they are taxed if they stay spend more than 100 dyas in the place where they pay tax. Its looking unworkable before you even start factoring in the development of large ships such as the The World.

I did consider it , tax harmonisation will do little for taxing the super rich. It would be necessary if you wanted to implement Daivid Clark's idea something I was thinking about yesterday..

It is more a case of supranationalism by any means necessary. I really am getting tired of this false flag chicanery.

If you genuinely think it will do what you say it will on the tin, go ahead, I think it will keep me in work and make the airport just down the road from you even busier (even though currently at capacity) the government changing the rules making day of transport one of the hundred days helps on that ...but what would I know

Any work to sort out the tax haven problem is welcome, but the UK can opt out of anything the EU does which is a shame.
