anyone seen this yet?

just phenomenal. a history of the band across the last twenty years that while it has its faults (it occasionally seems to want to paint frontman Wayne as something a little too messianical) is largely brilliant. very honest and painful in places - mainly when it deals with Steven Drozd's addictions - but funny and charming. and until they get it together to release a proper live DVD, the only place to see glimpses of the best live band in the world in action...

very very recommended.

looking forward to it....I feel like I need something life affirming....hope they tour soon!

i know. i've been ranting at Pie Eye about what a phenomenal thing they are.. the movie is dedicated to Dolly Coyne who i think is Wayne's mother, who therefore died last year, which may explain the lull.

amazing bit of the film is Gibby Haynes basically accusing Coyne of just ripping off his voice, his songs, his props, everything. cool that they left it in.

:( sad about the old dear

tbh honest I got Telepathic Surgery and then didn't listen to them for 10-12 years, then Yoshimi came out and I saw them when I was in a real dip and it was one of the most beautiful moving and joyous things I've ever seen :)

they've made me cry more times in concert than i care to remember :)

Is he allowed to sing again now (Wayne Coyne) ?

i think he has to keep it fairly limited. i mean, let's face it, he has a great voice but he can't actually sing for shit :D so it must be a shocking strain on his throat

Didn't he have some sort of warning about damaging his vocal chords permanently, if he didn't give it up for a bit though?
Last time I saw them he could barely make himself heard.

Similar story here.

I remember them from the late eighties, then they kind of sailed off my radar. (-In retrospect though, Transmissions from the Satellite Heart is a fantastic album.)

Didn't really check them out again 'til The Soft Bulletin, then Do You Realise?? came along in the depths of my depression and just summed it all up for me in three beautiful minutes.

Hoping to get to see this DVD at some point. Everybody says it's wonderful.

tbh, although the first few albums all have some great tunes and they're laudably mental, it's only really with 'In A priest Driven Ambulance' that they found their feet and it's Transmission From The Satellite Heart that for me is their first great album.. every one a winner since though :)

Great band. Great live band. Great tunes.

'Do You Realise?' and 'Waiting for Superman' are fucking awesome.

Can't wait to see the film.

there's a compilation DVD out in later summer too, with all their uniformly excellent vids :)

new single isn't quite doing it for me yet though

ooh ooh ooh

thanks for this. i just ordered a copy off amazon. #16.00 but sounds like it'll be worth it...

is the original vinyl record of 'here it is?' worth anything? i bought this when it came out.

i would have thought it was probably worth a few quid yes.. i'd buy it off you but i already have it ;)

Mr Ambulance Driver.. featured on the (ugh) Wedding Crashers soundtrack.

perfectly pleasant, very uneventful. may grow.

Watched this yesterday. Great, honest stuff. :)

The recurring dysfunctional element of their family backgrounds was quite an eye-opener. As was Wayne Coyne's ceaseless work ethic.

And Steven Drozd: what a talented bloke. Seemingly able to play pretty much any instrument. And play it well.

I knew before I watched this that I'd end up shedding a couple of tears of joy at some point, and yes, I cried towards the end of this film. There's simply no other band like The F'Lips that addresses Life's Big Questions with the same infectious optimism. :)

Recommended.

C'mon Warners, pull yer finger out!...

Anybody know the answers to the following?...

-Has either the Okie Noodling or Christmas On Mars soundtrack been released in it's entirety yet? (All that laid-back plucking stuff is kinda nice... )

-And has a compilation DVD of all their promos been released yet?

:)

they're the most authentic 60s psychedelic tribute band I've come across in decades. I like them, but can't figure why the hippy haters around here have any time for them at all.
