I am going there. What must I see.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

(I'll walk las Ramblas, but with real intent?)

Sagrada Familia - before it actually opens for services!

Miro museum/gallery.

Cable car across the bay (is it a bay? Across that big sea type thing then)

The beach(sounds silly but some people I met there hadn't been down  )
Catalan history museum was quite good, but it does take a while to go round
I heard the picasso museum was worth a visit but never made it myself
The market on la ramblas
Nou Camp
Olympic stadium on the hill (you can get a cable car there, dunno if that's the one belboid means)
There is a lovely park next to the zoo with lots of sculptures which I can't remember the name of. Wouldn't really recommend the zoo.
The bus tour is good for all the sights really. you pay 15 euros then you can hop on and off all day

Barca is a fab place

Go to the beach on the bus down past the bottom of Las Ramblas if you are staying near there, it's crowded and small but and clean and so close to the amenities.

The Nou camp if you like football, I went as a lone female, and it was v.safe and cool.

Boqeuiro (?) market near the top of Las Ramblas, which sells everything food-wise.

We got the bus up to the Olympic swimming pool (well diving pool) which has a superb view over the top of the city. There's the Dali museum too which I liked

Sagrada Familia - definitely, one of the most amazing and beautiful buildings I have ever seen (almost felt like having a good cry at the time - and I ain't the crying kind :p ) the Gaudi houses, Las Ramblas and the market, the old city.

Nou camp and the olympic stuff left me cold to be honest.

here's a load of stuff i collected before I went to barca - mainly from these boards actually.. sorry its a bit long.

Fundació Joan Miró Museum http://www.bcn.fjmiro.es/
Tuesdays to Saturdays 10.00 - 19.00 (October-June) Sundays and public holidays 10.00 - 14.30 Mondays (except public holidays) Closed

Picasso museum http://www.museupicasso.bcn.es/index.htm

Montjuic park

Take a cable car ride up to the fort at Montjuic and wander up to Mount Tibidabo - you can explore lots of museums and stuff and come down a brilliant big staircase to a musical fountain, about 10 minutes i think from the bottom of la ramblas.well worth taking on a clear day, you can get a sense of how places like La Sagrada Familia fit into the rest of the city. ends up on the next penisular along from Port Vell.

For something a bit different take the train from Placa de Espana to Monserrat and visit the monastary built into the side of a mountain. Takes about 45 minutes on the train, then cable car up to the top. Costs about £5 to get there. There's a retaurant up there and a funicular that goes all the way to top that gives you some of the most amazing panormamas anywhere in spain.

Port Vell is good - and the aquarium rocks!

Parc Guell (full of Gaudi sculptures) is def. worth a visit but go early if you want to avoid the tourists. It's the half-finished Gaudi housing estate that only has 1 house in it! It's famous for the Gecko fountain.

Try the Gothic Quarter and the area to the north of it (I think it called El Born) for quirky bars and people watching. the cathedral in the Gothic Quarter is worth a visit.
Make sure you go on both sides of thechurch) - the architecture is completely different. Truly one of the most incredible buildings - moving, even. will totally blow your mind… you haven’t seen HUGE until you’ve seen it!

maybe walk down La Rambla and see the street artists and walk around Barri Gotic and get some tapas and go to a few bars, especially Zoo and Dot. There a lovely market on Las Ramblas - and Gaudis house's up on De Gracia. Go to the big food market on las ramblas - can't remember what it's called, but you can't miss it... ...(its also opposite the erotica museum) stock up in the morning with breakfast pastries, olives, bread, cheese etc for a day's sightseeing. Saturday down the La Ramblas is great - that is the main street in the Gothic part of town - it has all the crazy street shows and performers, loads of character and is in the Gothic region of town which is the most interesting,

Word of warning: Las Ramblas is getting pretty rough now, particularly the back streets around Le Gothique...lots of muggings by gangs of algerian kids so never take your passport out with you unless you really need it and keep a tighty grip on any cameras.

Get the bus touristic, its 20 euro's for a two day ticket n u can get on and off as much as you want. the Blue & Red Tourist buses as they take you to all the good places. pay one fee, gives you the definitive guide and all your bearings, ( Oh yea and of course you get a discount book free, For gettin into all sorts of places free. )

Olympic quarter/Olympic Village/Olympic Stadium

OOOOO and check out the Irish Bar, called Paddy's Lane in the Pla de Palau. Near the Sta. Maria del Mar.

the Nou Camp - excellent guided tour for 6 euros including access to changing rooms, the pitch, trophy room etc.

The little arts and craft market off the strand in Barcelonetta is great for a leisurely walk along the port.

Port Olympia, the beach near it is not the best beach in the world, but there are some really great quiet spots

Restuarant recommendations
a restaurant in Placa De Real called something like Les Quinze Nits http://www.virtualtourist.com/vt/430de/2/31bd/ which is incredibly high standard haute cuisine food at stupidly low prices. La Fonda on Carrer dels Escudeller is owned by the same people and is equally cheap and tasty (3 courses and plenty of wine for 20-30 Euros). La Taxidermista on the other corner of Placa Real is dearer but is the best restaurant I've eaten at there - I had the best steak I've ever had there.
Bars/clubs
That photo is a bar on the beach. We found it by walking down la rambla to the water and taking a left then walking until you get to a promenade where you can walk down onto the sand. It took us about 30 minutes to get there, but we were justwanding around lazily! It’s kinda under one of those further down. I can’t rmember what it’s called but it’s either on Plat ja de mar bella and called Baja Beach Club or it’s a bit further down on Platja de la barceloneta and near a place called… erm… DJ Zone? Anyway, it’s an Indian looking place and the things in the background are like massive double beds. But you had to reserve them.

Plataforma

Nitzerclub

CDLC on Saturday night, down by the harbour, Hed Kandi has a residency there, been there and loved it.

http://www.cdlcbarcelona.com/v4/index.htm Pg Maritim 32
really cosy chiiled out place called Sugar off Placa Real that i really loved. its a tiny gem.
Any bar is a good bar in Barca - not much point getting there until about 11.30 because that's when people go out.
the Barrio Gotico (old, windy streets with good bars)
Tips
Grass is decriminalised in Barcelona/ If you need some beau whilst you’re there, there are loads of people selling down the streets off la rambla, and around Zoo when we were there.
take plugs, they are also noisy bastards.
there are lots of pickpockets around

When we went there we never managed to find the beach
Eh?! Seriously how can you not find the beach?! Didn't you think to go in the direction of the sea?!

Oh yea another thing about Barcelona you HAVE to go to the zoo! Its not a great zoo by any stretch of the immagination (altho the masturbating monkies were quite funny) but they have the only albino gorilla in captivity and you have to see it its scary as hell! Pink skin and blue eyes looks like a Yeti!

Mount Tibidabo is miles from Montjuic.

The only way to get there as far as I can work out is to get the blue tram and the funicular - when we went there the funicular was closed.

I suppose the other alternative is to walk.

Im posting from an internet cafe there, right now :p

Only got here at lunchtime and I´m working for most of this trip, but I´ve had a good walk around the gothic quarter and Las Ramblas.

Good place to go if

You like shopping
You like lairy coloured clothes ;)
You are gay and you want to see lots of cute boys.

Bad place to go if you hate human statues and mime artists (you think Covent Garden is bad, wait til you get here!)

So far so good, Im going to do touristy stuff on Monday if I get chance´.

p.s. there is a nightclub here called ´'fucked' . How brutally honest!

I´m here alone though. El jugs is ´living it up´at some secret festival back in the UK.

No partying for me, gotta be up at 7 tomorrow and sunday to spend hours at (a probably roasting hot) trade show.

Night night x

find plataforma (think it's spelt that way) - ace. 5 euros to get in, includes drink, dark nasty jungle all night long, and plenty of people to meet if your thighs can't handle the music

The Miro institute brill along with all the other sugestions . The Gaudia apartment is well worth the price of admission. avoid the olympic village marina. the tube is a good way to get around. there is a great market off the ramblas sit at one of the indoor food and drink counters the catalan version of the american diner all the food is there in front of you. The harbour and beach all within walking distance of the ramblas. Bario Gothica ! Just a great place. Familia Gardia moved me to tears and Im an athiest.

zoos = bad things!

Bloody hell, the albino gorilla, or "Copito de Nieve" (Snowball, how cute) died some time back. Still immortalised in a thousand tourist postcards though, and the odd bit of stencil art showing him finally free with wings on his back. Zoos, no ta! Go to the edge of the Parc de la Ciutadella and peer through the hedge to see the sad conditions their animals live in.

Have a drink at the winebars opposite Santa Maria del Pi, in the heart of the Born, then wander down the Born to the pizza place, La Pizza del Born, where you can get slices for 1-50 euro, and it is always jammed cos the pizza rocks :)

Irish bars in Bcn?? You must be joking, with the number of amazing locals places to see, why on earth would anyone go to an Irish bar? I did see Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot's da in the film) having a drink in the Paddy's Lane bar that was mentioned... dunno if that is reason enough to enter, though!
