People's Republic Of Disco Goes To Glastonbury

i know you know this anyway, but wolfie's done us a lovely page all about PROD at Glastonbury and I wanted to show it off..

and as it says...

We’re going to be in a spiegeltent, a glorious construction of wood and mirrors complete with banquette seating, chandeliers and a dancefloor – and we’re going to start proceedings as the other main stages finish each night (so 12.30am on Friday and Saturday, 12midnight on Sunday) and keep running until the early hours.

If you’ve been to PROD before you’ll know the score, but because we know that when lugging tents and rucksacks and camping stoves the 25 ½ miles from the car park to your tents the last thing you want is something else to carry, we’ve come up with a plan.

Glastonbury 2005 will see us unveil the People’s Republic Jukebox In A Shoebox, a fantastic piece of kit designed by the collective and Comrade Mighty Vacuum which will project an ever-changing selection of tunes onto a video screen for people to choose from. This is pulled from a database of literally thousands of tunes, so there’s bound to be something you like.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still bring your own tunes if you want – as ever, two tunes maximum on either vinyl, CD or CD-R (ideally burned at a fairly low speed to avoid corruption etc). The Vinyl Cloakroom will as ever be on hand to take care of anything you bring.

so there you go!

as I said on the Glasto thread - spread the link around - post it on the other bulletin boards you go to, tell your mates who are going to Glasto all about PROD, tell them to bring tunes with them ....

... the age of discocracy is fast approaching comrades!!! :D

thank you Comrade Walworth - you can sleep easy knowing you were in the vanguard of the struggle against the tyranny of the superstar DJ!

They're a bit confuzzled about the whole PROD thingie to be honest (I've mentioned it before)

Obviously in a prerevolutionary state of consciousness ...

would it be posisble for glasto going urbanites to have a small say in what goes into the shoebox jukebox(im presuming your going to be using mp3's????) you know it makes sense.

possibly some, but definitely not you :p

actually we've given this a lot of thought: a lot of the stuff is being used because it appears in previous PROD playlists, so that's one way of people having a voice.. to an extent, because of where we are (Dance Village) we're veering slightly but not entirely towards the funkier end of things - there will be rock, punk, indie etc - but there will be a lot of more beat-driven stuff..

anyway, with 1000-1500 tunes to choose from, you'll be fine.

well, maybe not you dave ;)

Bluestreak, did you sign up to that thread started by Blues?

Not sure where it is now (community or music?? ), but she started a mailing list (subscribed to over several bulletin boards) to keep people aware and immediately informed if any more tickets came on sale ...

There's just an outside chance ...

If you join Bees' email list closer to the time you'll get all the details of how to find people :)

Keep your eyes on the MAIN Glasto thread on Music. Nearer the Great Week, beesareonthewhatnow and aqua will I think have a email list for people to exchange moby numbers, keep informed about where Camp Urban is, etc.

And I'll be organising the traditional Wednesday Night meet at the Cider Bus ... so good it gets repeated on the Thursday!! :D

No organisation involved  People just remember the above minimal detail and turn up ...

8 pm on both evenings, or earlier, if you feel thirsty ...

eek. The Guardian picture desk have been in touch asking for a picture of the 'band' :D

so we can either knock up a pic of me, wolfie and ouchmonkee in balaclavas pointing guns at a DJ or find a pic from a previous PROD of three honeys and send them that, i reckon :D

Three honeys being myself, Shirl & Ouchmonkee's Missus, I would guess?
