Banksy's latest wizard wheeze

Gonna be worth more than Ms Hiltons CD ever will.

Appart from the books its one of the 1st actually tangible pieces of work that can be owned that I've heard of.

The possible downside is that people might boost the sales of the Paris Hilton CD looking for the few Banksy ones inside

Well I hope one of the titles Why am I Famous? What Have I Done? and What Am I For? makes it into the charts :)

They will probably become collectors items and go for loads on ebay.

Doh, too late, said already.

i think it's a bit dull really. nothing in the slightest bit subversive about it.

You can't see how making the CD of a talentless heiress who's the darling of the red tops and gossip rags look ridiculous is subvertising?

no - it's just publicity in my opinion - entering into the same world for the same reason, Now if Paris Hilton painted herself onto one of his muriels, now THAT would be subvertising genius, and I await a ticking off for the overuse of the g word.

look not ye upon the monster, lest ye become the monster, or summat like that....

Anyone who does something to undermine the status of that pointless clotheshorse (or unclothedhorse) gets lots of kudos in my book. :)

I agree. Especially when you look at the small details behind it.

Firstly, they are not Banskys own recordings - he does the art, but they are by Dangermouse - he of the Grey Album etc. Both Dangermouse and La Hilton are on the same label, with the same distibution.

Taken that it would be virtually impossible for Banksy to be able to get around the country in one night, intercept the lorry carrying the CD's or break into the premises, find the boxes of unopened CD's, replace a few of them in each location, put them back without anyone realising (have *you* ever tried to get those labels off a CD from HMV?) and not get caught, it doesnt take a genius to work out that its easier to make 500 CD's remotely with packaging etc and get them put in the packages at the production plant (like you do with Instant win competitions).

Its a marketing exercise to promote one CD and two artistes. And Banksy has associated his name with it to give it that 'cool' edge.

Shame on you Banksy. Shame on you.
