I am loving this song at the moment. :D

Can't wait to hear the rest of their new stuff too

Anyone else?

Do we need a poll?

Let me be the first to say it's bollocks.

A different sound? What's different about it? Sounds the same as everything else on the radio

I love Primal Scream - whether they're being hippy ravers, angry noiseniks or the Rolling Stones... Country Girl is them being the Stones again (see also Give Out But Don't Give Up) and it's ace.

I met that Gillespie at the Roses allnighter at Brixton Academy. 'You're brilliant' I said in my pilled up enthusiasm. 'Aye right enough' he replied drunkenly. I like to think we connected.

It's quite a different sound but I guarantee you'll like it.
Cool - I'll be listening out for it.

That was one of PS's strengths in the past, to jump chameleon-like, with ease, from one genre to another, album by album - from jangle pop to stoner rock to house to dance to blues to ambient to industrial to electonica... :)

Different for Primal Scream I mean :)

Never really got into Primal Scream before but I am loving the new single. Had it stuck in my head all morning.

It would be nice to see the gang back on track, 'cause I'd got the impression it had kind of fizzled out after that last album bombed, then the greatest hits...

Many parallels with Massive Attack over the years.

zenie- have you heard Give Out But Don't Give Up? I think you'll like it... ;) It's got that same bluesy/stonesy thing going on...It's the one after Screamadelica, '94 I think.

:D

He's married to my colleague's cousin. I'm trying to arrange an 'as if by accident' meeting

Heard it about 2 weeks ago on radio (and again last night on xfm), said to the wife...well that the best thing they've done in 10 years...lets hope it goes to no1....sounds like 'brown sugar' though (and other assorted stones bits...what can a poor girl doooooo)...but nowt wrong with that.

It's good but I prefer dubby, ambienty, housey, electro-punky Primal Scream to Stonesey Primal Scream. Plus it's far too radio-friendly and I suspect I'm going to be very bored of it very soon.

Against my better judgement, and despite all the (-entirely justified) criticism they receive, I've always been a bit of a fan of Primal Scream.

Bobby can't sing, can't dance, and seemingly can't stop himself from acting the dick as he tries far too hard to be shocking and rock'n'roll. Everything Primal Scream do is so blatantly a take on previous styles, and the way that they jump from one style to the next suggests that they still don't really have their own musical identity. IMO, a sizeable chunk of the credit deserves to go to whoever else they've got onboard at the time.

The new single sounds crap to me though. Obviously harking back to 'Give Out...', but the chorus particularly reminded me of another of their Stonesy tracks, 'Damaged' (-which I do love).

And much though I like Little Barrie, he's no replacement for Kevin Shields. Now he's gone, I don't suppose there'll be many more 'ACCLRTR's... :(

Primal Scream are rarely more than the sum of their record collections; but damn them, they do have excellent taste. :D
