What Car To Buy For 4K

Audi A6 quattro allroad.

Practical, low profile, fast as fuck and has a wizzy twin turbo noise when you give it some beans

Can fit dogs children and bikes in it

I picked one up for 3600, best car i've owned i reckon

i've got an '01 bug eye impreza you have for 3k if you wish. 120k miles, had it since birth, still runs ok, slight blow in one of the turbos & the tracking needs sorting as it heavily understeers when booting it out of corners

Thanks for the offer, but fuck that - no way! :)

I'd consider a Golf or Astra, and what about those Skodas? They look OK. Also Jap motors too. Nothing French :hmm:

I quite fancy an auto with power steering, air con, leather seats and loads of cool gadgets. Executive comfort for a gentleman-about-town, with grunt and a decent sound system.

what does that matter to you your cars blow up before you can make an insurance claim

your like a less productive dess

:p

Even when I crash them, I try not put through insurance. To me it's just another tax for keeping the fuckers on the road. Anyway I just bitch about paying to keep old cars on the road, they normally last me a good few years.

Down from £110 a month to £45 for changing motors so it's one of the first things on my mind when buying, but that's what 9 points does to ya.

And finally, the utterly awesome 3l V6 Mondeo ST220 (though better in the Estate version which increases your knob length by like a metre or something :D )

3k to 4k should get you a nice example of any of those.

Don't worry about the sound system when buying, just spunk a couple of hundred on ebay when your done for way better then any factory fit.

I'm selling an Audi A4 cab for 8k, 07 plate. Doesn't meet any of your criteria but I am in you area. Deal?

Seriously though, I'll look around for you.

I bought the missus a Golf Plus for £7k from these guys in Friern Barnet: http://www.finchleyandtotteridgecarcentre.co.uk/findUs.asp

I'm sure they'll have something suitable...

That's where I bought my current car! :)

If you do see anything decent locally, let me know. There'd certainly be a drink in it for you ;)

Excellent suggestions, I'd fucking love any of them, but need something a bit duller :(
why?

an xj8 has got an enormous boot, leather seats, electric everything inc. heated windscreen and mirrors etc and can be had with a fsh and less than fifty thousand on the clock for less than four grand.
it won't be as bad as you think for petrol (twenty mpg round town, over thirty on the motorway) and won't depreciate when you sell it on.

It's an old man's car though.

It's extremely tempting. I'm just scared of potential problems costing a fortune. I would be the pimp daddy motherfucking badass though, and my neighbours would be pissed off and jealous :)

i'd highly recommend a TDCI (Deisel) Mondeo estate (my 54 plate got to 200k with no dramas, and was still doing 48/49mpg when i sold it last year), or a Skoda Octavia Estate 4x4 if you want something a bit more interesting.

the Mondeo is bigger, gives a very comfortable but still slightly 'sporty' ride, and is cheaper both to run and buy. i'd only go for the Octavia if you really wanted the 4X4 version - its, imv, either less than, or the same as, the Mondeo in almost every measure - the one thing it does that the Mondeo can't however is the snow/ice thing. 4wd and winter tyres meant i went anywhere this winter.

autotrader have loads of 03 - 54 plate Modeo Estate TDCI's with 35-50k for around the £2900 mark, with the 4X4 Octavia's at £3999 with 100k and over...

that can happen with any car though. my local jag specialist charges thirty pounds an hour for labour.

also, it's a well made car.

also, it's the same engine in the aston martin v8 vantage.
