Three sided football

Lord Camomile

Yipchaa!
Just got back from my first match, actually a round-robin tournament of 4 teams.

Absolutely mind-boggling, but great fun and fascinating to watch unfold.

Three teams play at the same time, you win by conceding the fewest goals. Allegiances are formed and fall constantly, and gameplay is incredibly different to two-sided football, both on an individual and team level.

The guys I was playing with have a fairly regular game based in Deptford, but they're looking to branch out with games in other areas; I'm hoping to organise a match on Plumstead Common in the next few months. It's international though - some of the guys I was playing against had played in Madrid, and there's also talk of matches played in Denmark and elsewhere on the continent.

Check out their website, thought maybe urban could get a team together for a match at some point (next one is Sun, 19th Aug).

There's not exactly offside, but there is some rule about offensive players being in the area. We didn't play with areas today, so still a bit confused as to how it all works.

The Deptford games get a bit of coverage on Transpontine, but I'm still faintly baffled by it...
Yup, read some of that stuff when I was first looking into it. Some decent coverage really, good blog :)

It is slightly baffling, but you get the general hang of it pretty quick. Really excited about how it all develops though, fascinated to see what happens when players get a bit of experience under their belt, and what happens if a league ever becomes possible

Bunch of hippy bollox, listened to a fuckwit wank on about how this transcended the us and them paradigm of football back in 2000 sad to see nerds and losers have taken it up.

ohh i see adds for this as i walk through deptford

as soon as i saw the diagram on the poster i though that the stratigic element to this must be intresting.

they should brek the game into thirds to give the teams more time to form aligences at hal... third time

E2A

ohh reading their site a see they already do

they need a new site btw. it's terrible from a technical standpoint. i could make them a better one in an afternoon. in facy i might just do it

Coming next in three-sided football, a NINE TEAM rotorende featuring teams from across the UK and beyond. Still only three teams on the pitch at any one time, but we'll keep rotating between the goals every 20 minutes with teams coming off and on until all teams have played each other. It's going to be absolutely knackering! :D

It'll be taking place in Regent's Park on 4th May (Star Wars day!), more details to come very soon. If you fancy playing, or just spending an afternoon in the park watching us make fools of ourselves, come along

In the meantime, there's a new blog with match reports being added all the time :)

I don't understand people going to the cinema on a first date because they spend so little time actually talking to each other, I'm not sure it'll be any better if one literally sits on the sidelines while the other runs around tripping over his bootlaces.

I suppose I could get an 'injury' early on and have to be subbed off :hmm:

I'd really like to get into this
Well we play every other Sunday (k/o 2pm) in Fordham Park behind New X station, feel free to just pop down with yer boots :) Next match is 28th April (annoyingly I can't make that one).

There are plans afoot to set up a league of teams across London in September, but at the moment we just make teams out of whoever turns up.

Tomorrow.

I'm taking to the field for Deptford; playing in black I think we're going to look like the Evil Team from a Disney sports film. I'll be practising my cold stare :hmm:

Sounds like a load of hippy bollox.
You're not the first to suggest that :p

You can get involved in the "hippy bollocks" if you like, but you can also just play the game and enjoy the differences to regular football. It changes the way you play the game on an individual and team level; your bearings are off, you have to be more in tune with your teammates in order to build an attack towards the same goal and can often find yourself defending against two teams at once! Tactics change as you look to exploit lapses in concentration but not piss people off so they take it personally and simply batter your goal.

Can be knackering, but bloody good fun to.

Having examined far too closely, I'm pretty sure that's me in goal on the far left. 1 rotation out of 10 I spent in goal, and that's the bloody photo they go with
