There are such things as thermal underwear and I'd agree that wearing clothing more suitable for hotter climates looks a bit odd. OTOH bear in mind that converts have, in effect, fallen in love. Therefore you can't always expect them to act in a rational manner. It's relatively easy for a female convert to dress as required while not resorting to loose long robes etc. OTOH it might be more difficult for some men to work out what exactly is modest enough. And if they asked a practising Muslim, the chances are that they'd get something along the lines of "what I'm wearing is modest enough", hence the tendancy to equate modest with African or Asian clothing.

Mistaken of course - I've known Muslim men who wore nothing but European style clothes and they still found it possible to keep within the requirement of modest dress as they understood it.

Word, one of the bus stops I use a lot is only a dozen yards from a mosque. I won't pass it in a bikini, but at the same time I'm not going to cover my hair or stop wearing shorts or leggings.
