So today, after months of work and planning we launch our Report

PRESS RELEASE
REPORT - RESPONSIBLE REFORM

We did everything possible to engage with politicians, lobbying MPs and Peers, writing articles, attending conferences, but at every turn we were brushed aside.
Despite serious concerns from campaigners, charities and disabled people themselves, the Government's the recent Impact Assessment (October 2011) into the proposed reform of Disability Living Allowance is almost identical to the original. Nothing has changed, almost none of our concerns have been addressed and as the House of Lords return to vote on the final stages of the welfare reform bill, we felt that it was vital we presented our own evidence.

This is the Spartacus Report. We all own it, we all created it. It is yours, use it in any way you wish. Please join in the campaign online today if you aren't already signed up:

Tweeting using the hashtag #spartacusreport "I support the #spartacus report"
Change Facebook status to "I support the Spartacus Report"
Email your MP with the links to the report and the press release using this short covering letter :

“This report into Disability Allowance Reform has been written, researched and funded by disabled people. As one of your constituents, I am very concerned by its findings and the misrepresentation of disabled people that it exposes.
Please will you read the report and support sick and disabled people in calling for a pause to Personal Independence Payments in light of this new research.
I look forward to your response,”
Finally, please keep checking the blog all day as we will be updating regularly with very exciting updates ;)

Our report shows that :

-The Government broke its own code of consultation over the DLA reform
-The Government has entirely misrepresented the views submitted as part of the consultation, giving a partial and biased view.
-The Government claim that DLA must be reformed as claims has risen 30% in 8 years - we find that these statistics are entirely misleading and give a "distorted view"
-There is overwhelming opposition to the new benefit, Personal Independence Payments
-Some elements of PIP appear to already be going ahead, despite a rejection of the plans and before legislation has passed.
-The Government are repeatedly warned that proposals for PIP may break International and UK equality and Human Rights legislation

This is our chance to be heard. This is our chance to put evidence in the public domain from our own perspective. Today, a courier will take 31 boxes or reports, all hand stuffed into envelopes and addressed and deliver them to every peer and every MP and all of the people who responded to the consultation.

We did it. I had no idea if we could when we started, but we did it.

From today, Government may of course continue to ignore us. But they can never say they didn't know what they were doing.'

I know this has been posted elsewhere on here, but is important to note that the 'responsible reform report' was funded and researched by sick and disabled people and is asking for people not just to contact M.P's but also to tweet and post on facebook spreading the news, etc.

this really is a great achievement by people who have so much to deal with

having said all that, the inital welfare reform bill under Nl had over 580 submissions to the review, most critical, they were ignored...

click edit, then go advanced :)

Nice work BTW, I shall spread it like it did the herpes :)

Right, so people aren't ignoring this in favour of topics relating to race after all. Glad we cleared that one up.

Please look at this blog. A group of 'ordinary' disabled people has, with great tenacity and hard work, exposed a grave injustice perpetrated by this government on hundreds of thousands of ill and disabled people.

Support 'Responsible Reform' by following the instructions on the link below. Spread the word of this piece of government mendacity to your friends, families, workmates and contacts. Let's rise with one voice and shout 'Enough! Stop the vicious attacks on disabled people!'

Not much of a mention on mainstream media that I can see :( hopefully I'm just looking in the wrong places.

Bizzarre, big split between Boris and the Govt over major social policy and yet the BBC etc hardly cover it, methinks that the media doesn't want to explore opposition to what they perceive are popular policies with the public, aagin not being aware they are helping shape that public opinion...

never mind the interesting angle the report has been produced and funded by disabled people themselves..

more celebs supporting the report though, it will go viral at some point, if anyone knows any please ask them to support the document..

"As they currently stand, the proposed Personal Independence Payments are scandalous. No-one with an ounce of compassion can fail to be shocked by these changes. The idea that someone who can propel their own wheelchair should be judged as if they can walk is clearly ludicrous. The fact that someone's need for essential supervision isn't even considered is utterly inhumane. This government would do well to puts its ideology aside, and actually listen to the needs of sick and disabled people. This is how democracy works. This is how a civilised society acts."

Can you keep posting updates on here please treelover? Not just for me - I know a few people who are interested and I'd like to keep them updated too.

'This thorough and rigorous report based on proper consultation with the people who will be, in many cases, shockingly affected by the government's proposed changes to DLA and the introduction of PIP, should be right at the heart of any welfare reform. The government's proposals are rash, short-sighted, inhumane and ultimately expensive. The new system is already causing much stress and anxiety to so many people who are frankly dealing with enough."

Corrie actors now supporting it, you can donate to the research fighting fund here, many many have...

Apparently the DWP Press Office is using the campaigns own '#spartacusreport' hashtag to tweet its own false claims about DLA.
Claims that have been completely discredited by this report....

btw, the lack of reporting of what is becoming a political and cultural event by especially the BBC reminds you of the old eastern bloc and indeed the state broadcasting of the pre Arab Spring, the internet means that eventually they will have to cover it..

Spread this to all my contacts and groups on facebook. I just wished you'd just for once cut out the bullshit treelover.

This came from the DWP Press Office official twitter feed -

re #spartacusreport DLA an outdated benefit. Vast majority getting it for life without systematic checks to see if condition has changed.

they have been asked for evidence of this very spurious claim but nothing forthcoming so far.....

I love the assumption that if something changed, the individual wouldn't have the sense to inform the DWP themselves. Loathe their 'guilty until proven otherwise' attitude.

I don't know any fucker, even those of us with indefinite awards (which is what I suppose the piss-scented arse-monkey means by "for life" ), who hasn't been "checked" (i.e. had to go through a renewal procedure) at least once. If whoever at the DWP put that out was doing so officially, they should be fucking-well disciplined for gross misconduct (bringing employer into disrepute), and the disciplinary measures should be applied all the way up to whoever sanctioned such blatant fucking lies.

Yes, it's like the majority of us don't already know, through bitter experience, not to give the DWP any hostages to fortune when dealing with them.

i know. for one, as you note, there is no such things as an life award.

for two, they have the legal means to review any DLA award at any time, if they wish to. so its utter yarbles to suggest that for some reason, everyone on DLA gets the benefit because of their initial application.

i will be bringing this up at a meeting tomorrow, to see if we can't get their press office to make a formal retraction (although i doubt whether this will happen).

A spokeswoman for the DWP said the Spartacus report was a selective analysis of consultation responses, which had looked at 500 responses out of more than 5500 submitted on the Government's proposals.
She added: "Disability Living Allowance is an outdated benefit with the majority of people getting it for life without checks to see if their condition has changed. This has led to hundreds of millions of pounds in overpayments.
"We have been working closely with disabled people and disability organisations on the introduction of Personal Independence Payment and have listened to their views."

Oh no they haven't.. They have gone out of their way to discredit the report as fast as they can though.

Same old bullshit trotted out.

I hope, as stated by those in posts above, that these shit merchants get their marching orders. I very much doubt it though as these governments need their shit merchants to force this bollocks on us.

I fucking despair for us all.
