Phone: 07 903 812 190 for the exact location on the day. Also check the party website: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/09/322639.html for flyers and more details.

For fucksake this is the first RTS party since 1999! I thought people would be more enthusiastic about this and would be flocking to this thread saying how they would be trying to attend at all costs. Right to whet your appititte here is a view of an RTS party back in the old days of the late 90s:

Um, no actually I went to a 'RTS style party' a few months ago. It was in a warehouse. It was cool, but not exactly what I expected. And they charged a fiver to get in.

might have helped if you had put it in general rahter than music. more people would have seen it there.

i went to a couple of reclaim the streets parties in norwich back in 98/99. really enjoyable.

Just out of curiosity how can you have a reclaim the streets style party in a warehouse?

That's what we were wondering. As I said, not what we expected at all. It was advertised as an RTS party, but there were a lot of very confused looking people standing outside said warehouse when we got there.

well i reckon i'm going. the rts parties in the mid-late 90s were some of the best times of my life.

treehouse, relax my friend.

Was that Reclaim the Future?

I've heard they are wank from some, good by others - but they aren't anything like RtS from what I've heard. Just a bit bandwagon on the name.

I might try and make this. Is it worth trying to establish an urbanite meet-up place/time?

Only if you plan to meet well before it all starts off and then move there as the phone line works... anyway, I'll be around. That'll put you all off :p

Hmmmmm.............I am planning to be in The Tate at this point! Shame to not pop along to this, even if just to sit in the street! I can't afford to party at the moment!

Look. It does say 'Street Party' and it does start at 1pm. I doubt if the original RTS have anything to do with it but so what. I'll give it a whirl. East London is a very big area and transport is abysmal in some areas. I will phone the number and make my decision then. That's me rolling up to RTS in a stretch limo. :D hehehe!

spliff xxx

Edited to add. Could it be in some way related to this

There used to a Reclaim the Future group that came from the Workers' Revolutionary Party - although they are not called that now.

Not sure about full details, but the Reclaim the Future party back in June was

[a ] superb! (like some of the previous ones, earlier years)
[b ] being organised by some of the same people who were involved in the original RTS (AFAIK)

So not really a bandwaggon on the name ...

One or two Urbanites will know more about that ... ;)

This new thing has the look of having not much connection with the old RTS organisers (???) but I may be wrong

Sadly, we're very likely still to be drinking beer in Essex ... :( (but also  )

The Reclaim The Streets idea in the late 90s spread to other UK cities and other countries, then it faded. Its orginal aim was to target road building and the ever increasing car use. Then it took on wider aims. In the wake of hurricane Katrina and the global warming disaster its original aim is still as relevent as ever. People have simply got to reduce their car use if we are to prevent further global warming with all the disastrous consequences that brings.

yeah I guess it would be difficult to meet beforehand - I guess I'll try and ring people once there if I don't spot them.

The RTS street party is a seperate event to the actions ahead. I think the idea behind it is to get loads of non political people along who want to party and then get them interested in the campaign to shut down the arms fair. In the same way that Rock Against Racism got people involved in the campaign against the National Front in the late seventies.
