Peak Water

If the population keeps growing as it has peak water is most definitely going to become more and more an issue and in the not so distant future water will be as valueable as oil if not more.

Massive problem right across north China, which has been water-scarce for centuries. Recent industrial development adding to problems and water table under Beijing dropped by metres over a decade (can't recall figure). All sorts of perverse priorities, as read a ton of water used in industry will generate e.g. 100 dollars, in agriculture only one dollar, so you end up with no food security or very pricey food. Then China has the headwaters of many of Asia/ SE Asia's most important rivers, so lots of flashpoints with neighbours too.

No shortage of candidates for four horsemen of the apocalypse these days eh.

Off the top of my head peak oil, peak water, peak phosphorus, and loss of medicine effectiveness (antibiotics etc) seem like reasonable candidates, though there are some other strong candidates ready in the wings Im sure, and I wouldn't actually like to predict which order these things will come in, or how much potential there is to delay the peaks or mitigate effectively. I find it so easy to be pessimistic on all fronts that I have to try to point myself in the opposite direction sometimes to stop myself getting carried away.

Peak helium too. Might sound like a non-issue, (oh no, no more balloons) but its a lot more useful, i.e. cooling metals to make superconducting magnets like in MRI machines.

round here it's probably the donkey derby of the "eeh! pucker lips!"
- aka the kiss of death
