Long time ago.....i know...anyone at that demo? im trying to find a picture from the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard of that day that they printed of me in the days after Labelling me "The General"...etc the usual nonsense...however i,ve been to the newspaper library and cant find the dates .....all info gratefully recieved....peace and love to all...

yep, I was there.

kettled for three fucking hours. section 60'd.

the conveniently abandoned police van for the rioters to have their fun with. some masked up bloke trying to set it alight whilst that bloke with the long beard who you'd always see on demos in london selling The Green Anarchist deadpanning 'The Spectacle. Look at the spectacle'. :D

i was there too, if it's the one i'm thinking of. not sure if i have anything in the files though.

heh. stayed well away from that one. scripted long in advance.

I felt obliged to turn up because I was at college around the corner but, yep, you're right it was so obviously scripted. And I could have left well before getting kettled in but I stuck around out of curiosity and paid the price.

I still remember that when I was getting searched by two police officers as we were being let out one by one, the indignance of the two searching police officers about how supposedly affluent a lot of the people were who they'd already searched. Complaining about all their credit cards. :D

Yeah, if I was local I still might've gone.

...actually I probably wouldn't. I avoided the local action equally on the hunch that it was going to de shit, albeit in a different way for different reasons.

Time really was up for that kind of action.

No pics but have seen this:

http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2000/may/27/mayday.world

A police van with scaffolding on the top to make it easier to topple. Lovely Medic Cop beating a woman in the face with a baton. It was my first protest and I was shit scared but well up for it. Luckily avoided being kettled as I came from work and was on my own.

I remember Mayday the following year too. I must have been back at home by that point because I got in and my old man was watching the news of the McDonalds getting fucked over and he was a bit like " so is this where you've been today?" Ha. I said yeah there I am at that bus stop. :D

Or my mates at the time thought I was a mental weirdo with all that political shit man.

The Met's first attempt at a proper kettle! You were there lucky they were still a bit unsure of how to implement it...

I like that the impartial Beeb forgets to mention that the Met beat the crap out of several journalists that night, despite their clearly identifying themselves, even breaking the arm of an Express hack (who was only saved from further injuries by Kate Adie protecting him!)

yes. Running down the road to Kings Cross. Said medic cop also getting a guardian photographer and trying to pull him over the railings with his magic wellness stick.

Oi oi, ‘General’ - whilst hunting around in the attic for something else I found this clipping from The Guardian (27/5/00):
