My cycle storage solution

Watch your head after a night on the tiles, my mate did a similar thing and split his head open on a pedal after a night on the piss.

Noted. I initially thought my friend who installed the mounting placed it too high but it's perfect. I have just rotated the outward peddle upwards and it's now above head height.

I have an alcove in my kitchen, currently home to a fridge freezer, that I'm planning to turn into a bike cupboard with bikes hung vertically. I've seen a similar arangement in a local bike coop workshop and it seems an efficient way of storing them - they have a rail with hooks on it, you just lift up and hang off the front wheel. At the moment my dining room has three bikes in it, with another under repair that will join them at some point, it'd be nice to keep them out of sight. I only have a tiny yard that has no room for a shed or locker.

No idea where I'm going to put my fridge freezer though, the dining room looks like the most likely option

Nice. I've had to install a similar thing on an outside wall because there's no room in the house. Not ideal, but with a bike cover on and it all locked up it should suffice.

I need something pretty heavy duty because my Pashley freighter weighs a similar amount to Eric Pickles. I'm thinking a bar across the alcove (like one of those pull-up bars) with hooks. Mine's an Edwardian pile, so it'd be anchored into brick which should be fine.

Get a couple of swing hooks, a couple of pulley hooks, paracord or similar that's the right diameter for the pulley hooks, and a tie off. All in it'll cost you less than £20, and adding the pulleys in makes it a piss of piece to raise it up, then tie it off.

Anyone tried one of those metal outdoor storage lockers? Looks like you can get them used for a couple of hundred quid. Are they reasonably burglar proof ... ?

(Wife is about to get a bike and I already have two)

Jealous. I have a large cupboard in the hallway which will soon be emptied to store our three bikes. Then I can see of it will accommodate a fourth...

Well I gained a fifth bike from the boot sale today, plus the lodger has one (and is thinking about getting a winter bike too). The dining room is fucking ridiculous.

Two bikes shouldn't be hanging around long - one is an old Raleigh mountain bike to give away to whichever friend wants it, the other is the one I got today which I'll clean up and fix then sell on.

Outdoor bike lockers aren't an option for me as my back yard is tiny, plus someone round here would find a way in.

If I ever bought anything to store my bikes inside the house then Mrs Chap would, quite literally, kill me.

The space under the stairs is open with no cupboards. That's where the bikes live. The end wall is a riot of tyre marks :D
