Henry vs Miele?

Which is better?
My vaccum broke last week and i've been sweeping up instead of replacing it straight away, anticipating enormous reductions in the January sales but it's making me itch not being able to hoover up properly
So yeah, I need a vacuum cleaner for a carpeted house, one cat and one person with allergies. I also do not want to have to replace it in a year.
Henry seems to be the best for durability but the suction is comparitively low and there's little filtration. Miele seems to be more reliable than most, with more filtration and a more powerful motor (2000w) that means more suction right? so I'm not sure which to go for. Opinions please :)

I'm open to other suggestions too, if anybody has any good recommendations

Miele. I have both, but Henry for messy stuff when you're decorating
Yeah I'm leaning towards it tbh but i've never had one so i don't know if they are actually good cleaners or not.

I should probably add that I frequently hoover up lego by accident, i wondered if the industrial henry might be better at not breaking... i should probably pick up the lego though.
Is the henry heavy?

The face was painted on to make up for / distract from it being shit.
I have the Miele Cat and Dog and am very happy with it. I use the round curtain brush for general dusting. So really it does two jobs in one.
And I am regularly  vacuuming up small items and there has never been any breakage.

Miele is overpriced and most of their models don't even have a HEPA filter, I mean ffs what's that all about?

Electrolux is the sensible choice.

Miele's can come apart and stand upright for easy storage. The hose even comes off so you can hang that up somewhere so you don't trip over it. All their tools can be stashed inside. Henry spreads his hose everywhere.

Where do you live? You could ask other urbanites for a lend of either to see which works for you

Sometimes even across multiple area codes.

I have a Miele. It's great apart from the bag hassle.

Yeah, the bag's the only disadvantage which is why I keep the Henry as I don't like using Miele after decorating as scared nails/rubble etc. will rip the bag :D

Henry is standard where I work, but then it's only short-pile commercial carpets and daily cleaning ..

I don't know what they use in commercial places where there's a lot of spillage ...

I don't have that problem because I only vacuum up kittens and dreams about clouds. Still a pain in the arse to empty.

I can't get one of my tools inside the body and shut the lid. I know it must fit in somehow because I've done it before, but can't 99% of the time :hmm:

The great thing that commercial Henry's have going for them is that they are simple and straightforward to maintain and all the parts are easy to get and not grossly overpriced. Dunno if the smaller/domestic Henrys have the same practical ethos but I hope so - I know several people who have bought cheap industrial Henrys at disposal sales, got them going for next to nothing and have sworn by them ever since.

I think the Henrys are decent for smaller spills - We use them here and there is often spillage in the labs etc but we do keep a single more specialised sooker-upper on hand for bigger spills in the aquariums.

We have a Miele pet upright and it's bloody brilliant. I've never had a Henry so can't compare but we're really happy with our Miele.

Mrs Jones is a cleaner by trade of many years and will use nothing but Henry's. She laughs in the faces of Dyson users.

Never heard of these Mieles, will quiz her in the morning.

The Numatics, Henry and James, have 1200W and 800W motors so they wont have as good scution as a 2200W motor will they? That is how it works isn't it?

power consumption is not everything it's how well it sucks, we have a miele cylinder and we have been happy with it, the button to audjust the hose lenth bust recently, one year old, so will find out how good customer service is this week. it does pick up well untill the bag is full. Not had a henry but did have a nilfisk weighed a ton and picked up everything even lifted the fitted carpet up.

this is so, but I'd argue that for what you need the James is the superior option. Filtration is more than adquate, there is a turbo boost button, the designis the tried tested and never bettered (fuck you dyson) barrel body. They are simple and they don't break. I've deep pile carpeting, a moulting dog and my own spillages- the James deals with it no problem. Comes with washable bags as well.

If you were wanting a hoover for a cleaning cupboard in a big office block, then the extra power would justify the costs. Even then I'd allow meile and get one of those insane 1500 quid brushed steel things

The poll is tied and I trust the canny DotCom's advice... :hmm:

On balance, given that I shed an awful lot of hair, have an elderly cat which also molts and a child allergic to dust I'm going to go with the Miele which has a fancy filtration system which supposedly retains 99.something-or-other% of dust particles and has a brush to help get all hairs and stuff up.

You can extend the warranty to 10yrs for £30. I don't usually buy extended warranties but that seems like a good price for 10yrs cover
