Let's make the best Dulwich Hamlet supporters' website ever!

Some ideas that I'd love your feedback on: I reckon it would be grand to have some sort of web portal thingy that puts all the various fan reports and photos together to make a really comprehensive Hamlet fan resource.

At the moment, people are posting their photos here and on Flikr/Facebook, and it's quite easy to miss them. I think it would be a great idea to either host them all together, or at least have individual match pages here where they're all linked, and thus easier to find.

As for me, I think it makes sense to try and bring all the urban75/BBuzz stuff together - at the moment they're spread over three places:

My first thought is that with threads as huge as that it's really hard to find anything, so I'm thinking a dedicated Hamlet sub-forum here now makes sense - especially given the way that more and more people are posting here.

So, if a thread is started for every upcoming game (along with the usual general chat etc ones), it'll make it easier to find info as that chat can get lost in the current single uber-thread - and after the game folks could add their own photos and reports, so we'll end up with a great game-by-game record of the season.

Eventually, I reckon it would be good to end up with a home/portal page that lists all the Hamlet matches for the season, has links to everyone's photos collections, links to the official site/the other chat board etc, plus loads of practical information about getting to the Hamlet etc.

I'd be happy to give out editing permissions so others can get involved with running this to ensure it's always up to date and full of useful info - and hopefully create something so appealing that we'll keep fans new and old clicking through the turnstiles, regardless of how we're performing on the pitch.

I think that it is a great idea to try and pull together all the bits of content that is being produced around Dulwich, both on urban, Brixton Buzz, tweets, Facebook and Vine etc.

But where to start?

n0tice could be a possibility. Even a WP blog or tumblr with shared (and trusted) editing rights. I get the impression that Editor would rather keep the content on a neutral platform, rather than farm out the data to a third party and let them flog crappy ads around it.

Me too.

I still think you need some form of consistent navigation, not to mention the audience that urban / BB already generates. Starting afresh might just lose a little momentum.

A well structured forum still remains my preferred choice for accessing content. I'll miss loads of stuff on FB and twitter. With a forum you've got clear headings describing what is below.

So...

I think the best solution would be to stick with urban, and probably a dedicated sub-forum. I appreciate the work of the other forum, but it is a little fiddly and hasn't got the groundswell that has built up over here. Threads could be pinned around photos, video content etc. Each mathday could have a separate thread. Meet ups as well, etc.

It's a sign as to where the club is now that just trying how to make sense of all of this madness online is becoming something of a task.

Yes, I'm thinking of going with the simplest solution and just starting up a new sub forum and have threads for individual games/social events etc.

If people add links to their own photos/reports on the match threads, then I'll add a link back to that thread in my Brixton Buzz match reports and hopefully more people will get to see the other fab content.

It would be good to have a front page on "why do you support Dulwich Hamlet....'cos we are proud to follow you away". I think this should include how to get involved at the club for people who either disenfranchised from their current team, just want to come to a game or are just curious about this local phenomenon...but don't want to go on their own. A means for people of all walks of life to feel that they can rock up, meet new people and enjoy themselves. Perhaps include a regular pre-match meeting point (the Brick?...I am biased on that mind), contact etc? I'm happy to help on drafting this...but have limited presentation / web skills.

I would be happy to flyer Peckham / Dulwich area train stations, pubs etc to advertise the Dulwich Hamlet identity and community links, and include a link to this website for further information / fixtures etc... I wouldn't bother focusing on fixtures, as this is secondary information...

I'm still looking at building a 'portal' that will have links to match reports/accompanying threads, chat threads, articles, and all the other useful related info (location/transport/Hamlet songs/socials/useful links/official site/community stuff etc).

And I've started the ball rolling with the domain name www.dulwichhamlet.org which temporarily links to the BBuzz match reports.

Isn't this what the main website is for, you can put all pics and videos on that already!!

Now it will look like there is two websites?

Trust me, it'll be great. :)

As there has been talk of setting up a new supporters club would it not be worth us trying to get together, as a platform like this would be an awesome way of communicating and engaging fans new/old.

plus be good to be united and bring our skills together rather than have too many different things going on that could confuse... just an idea as i think we could really build something positive here for the fans and the club with all the different skills we have.

I'm happy to meet up and see what people want to do, and the more input the better.

I do think the shiny new sub forum will be a great way for folks to get talking and create a buzz for Hamlet - and I think that should remain the at the core of it all - but I reckon having an overall, easier to read portal page should be a good way to entice people into the forum.

Let's all go for a beer and discuss it!

my suggestion could be keep this going as is... but we could create some awesome portal thing for a new supporters club maybe?

EDIT Sent this as you said your above.

Nah, that is for official news, which is already done really well. However, you can't put stuff up on there which might be slightly off message. Look what happened with that "smell bacon" tweet earlier in the season? It will be great to have an independent supporter run website, which focuses on the fan culture and actions as the top priority. The official site does a great job reporting "on the pitch" news and official club activities. Clearly, there will be some cross over, but that is surely a good thing?

That's kind of the idea. The forum will have all the chat, individual pre-match/post-match banter, links to the BBuzz reports as well as links to other people's photos and reports etc., while the portal thingy should go an overview, so a new supporter can dip in and find out about the club, get info about upcoming games etc.

The club's official match reports are great - far more factual than my alcohol-impaired photographic 'impressions' - and that's why I always link directly to each one from the BBuzz report.

I like to think they complement each other, as do the ones that other regulars have posted up.

I could be wrong, but I also imagine that the links from the BBuzz reports have also driven a fair bit of traffic to the official site too. I hope so.

Cool I like that lets have a beer with people Jamie Wyatt and Shaun, as yeh we need to make sure things can be as united as possible! :)

Don't get me wrong, I think editor's idea is a great one, it's just with everything I do I like to make sure that I not stepping on anyone's toes!

The website is great, both forums work in there own way, Twitter and FB are good for people that use them, the more ways people can find out and learn about DHFC the better!!

Spot on!

It already does:

Anything that might pull the old website down the google results is a good thing, I reckon. You'd be amazed at how few people would bother clicking on the link to the new site from the old co.uk one (people are on average notoriously, infuriatingly lazy when googling). And having different fan-run sites will just highlight the fact DHFC has a large and multifaceted fan culture for this level of football.

Couldn't Mr Editor have used that web address (for old site)?? Not really up on these things!! ;-)

Who owns that url now? Couldn't it just be redirected to the official pitchero site?

I have only briefly spoken about it so not sure what they want. I suspect they are going to ask me for an official website but i am not sure. I will email him and let you know what he says. I think a fans website might work better than combining it with the official one mind

We have the people, the photos, the articles, the content, the ideas, the experience and the enthusiasm to make a fucking great fans' resource for Hamlet and one that is going to do a better job than any other to get people excited about this great club.

Let's go right ahead and do it, say I!

And the videos! Yeah, this thread is far too big, and I can nearly never log on to the proper forum (hence my enormous use of this thread over the last year - though I'm glad I did, has been good to get to know new people on Urban).
