Hundreds of women assaulted in German NYE celebrations

This isn't being very widely reported yet as far as I can tell but it's been picked up by the BBC from German media: Germany shocked by Cologne New Year gang assaults on women - BBC News

In Cologne, around 80 women have reported being sexually assaulted (at least one rape was reported) and mugged by gangs of around 1,000 drunken men on New Year's Eve with similar reports emerging from Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Police think the attacks were organised and the men went along with the specific aim of attacking women.

What is particularly disturbing is that the attacks appear to have been organised. Around 1,000 young men arrived in large groups, seemingly with the specific intention of carrying out attacks on women.

Police are trying to find out whether the men who targeted women on Thursday night, surrounding, molesting and robbing them, organised their assaults through social media.

Cologne news website Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger says the suspects were already known to police because of frequent pickpocketing in and around Cologne central station.

no, that's what the police chief said, not what the reporter said - they are reporting speech. i don't see where in the reporting there are racist undertones. so i would like phildwyer to come to my assistance and point it out.
