Press Release: MAB Welcomes Mr. Galloways’ Conversion to Islam

The Muslim Association of Britain welcomes Mr. George Galloways’ decision to speak publicly about his recent conversion to Islam. This came after a period of “profound study and spiritual reflection”, a spokesman for Mr. Galloway said last night.

Ahmed Al-Sheikh, President of the MAB commented “I applaud George for accepting Islam into his life. Now all British Muslims have a strong fighter in parliament representing their interests. We look forward to working closely with George and his Respect party to halt the tide of Islamophobia”.

Mr. Galloway in his statement calls on the withdrawal of coalition troops from all Muslim lands, and immediately pledged 10% of his income in fulfilment of the Zakat.

Doing a TV show will hardly get you locked up as a war criminal. It's not really the worst thing you can do in this world, is it?

He has publicly and repeatedly backed female Respect candidates such as Salma Yaqoob, and their profile is most definitely changing things inside the Muslim community. He also denounced That Scottish bus owner (Brian Souter??) for his homophobic campaigns recently.

The stuff around women in the Muslim community is very significant, but a white leftist who was not connected to that community wouldn't see a thing happening.

Much as I loathe GG I've got to agree with you there. Of course he's entitled to have a personal view on abortion - it isn't a totally black and white issue.

I'd rather criticise him for his general lack of dealing with sexism and homophobia in the Muslim community that is a representative of. He is in an influential position and he should use his influence not only to promote his constituents' issues with the wider community but also to promote liberal social attitudes to his deeplyt conservative constituents.

off the top of my head I can name more female Respect-ers than male - Lindsey German, Salma Yaqoob and Yvonne Ridley - and they are all outspoken females. Galloway is not shying away from his support of gay rights or women's rights as far as i know. Remember how close he was with the very openly gay Pete Burns during big brother? Burns liked Galloway so much he said he wished he had had a father like him. The housemates had a conversation (which I saw on the live-stream) where GG said he was very much a supporter of gay couples adopting. How exactly is Galloway hiding his views or pandering to the apparent conservative members amongst his constituents?

If perhaps he had started voting against rights for gay people and women in parliament then that would be some proof but as far as I know he hasn't done this. What should he be doing that he isn't? i think the level of anti-galloway feeling has reached such a level among some people that whatever he did he would be criticised tbh.

I would still like to hear the proof that he is a 'religious fundamentalist' too btw.

The reason Galloway is a twat

The first reason is that he appeared on a game show ran by a company, very close to News International, when crucial issues needed to be addressed within his own constituancy and the London Assembly. Galloway is not an idiot, he knew exactly what he was doing. His Parliamentary career was finished as soon as he was, wrongly and unprofessionally, kicked out of the Parliamentary Labour Party. He promised that his term as Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow would be temporary. And what better way to secure your future security by cosying up to Rupert Murdoch and his ilk.

In brief Mr Galloway entered the Big Brother house, not spread the anti war message but to expand his career as a media personality, while his constituents were left for three months railing about their community being left without a representative.
