Charlie Richardson is brown bread

My uncle's best mate was a gun runner for them

(always a 'gun runner'. Never hitman, hired muscle, used to do the doors, always, 'gun runner')

My stupid brain keeps reading this thread title as 'Cliff Richard is dead' when I catch it out of the corner of my eye. :(

has there ever been any decent books by/about that lot? the autobiogs are appalling - reg krays thoughts and philospophy being one! frank frasers 1st was pretty readable tho. hes quite good at spinning a tale.

I used to drink in a pub in Stoke Newington (now closed and converted into flats) and the landlord reckoned he was mates with the Krays and knew the Richardsons - mmm 'chinnyreckon'

It wouldn't be a proper Friday night out in South London if you didn't at some point meet some pisshead bragging about how he was related/connected to the Richardsons.
it's a bit like Swansea/Mumbles in the 80s when every old fellah you spoke to in a pub claimed Dylan Thomas owed him a tenner *

*well not quite like it - unless Dylan Thomas was a mobster

There is a film about Charlie Richardson, 'Charlie' starring one of the Bros brothers. Co-stars Den and Angie from Eastenders.

not very like it at all but it wouldnt be surprising as thomas was, to put it nicely, a wastrel! dylan, 'good to see him, better to see him go - was 1 opinion (approx)

This will probably revitalize Dave Courtney's "career"...

I can understand people being interested in the old-timers like Jack Spot, the Richardsons and the Krays, but Courtney? Most of his "rep" was built on getting away with a murder and helping arrange a Kray funeral. Villains treat him with barely-concealed contempt, and coppers buy info off of him (which Courtney claims is disinformation, obviously).

Reminds me of a time I was drinking outside the York Tavern in Angel, when reclaim the streets blocked off the streets, sand pits, etc - a sound system - it was a lovely sunny afternoon, and who should be sitting near us - Mad Frankie Fraser!

I will be able to use that one again when he eventually dies

I've never met anyone who was floating around London in the 60's who didn't know the Krays :hmm:
