Brixton Planning Watch

I wrote mini program last month to to send me an email when there are any new planning applications in Brixton (on the basis that you only hear about the ones that directly effect you, but not about ones like Brighton Terrace Drug Treatment Center or The Queen).

Would anyone be interested if I opened it up so anyone can get them?

If anyone knows the postcode subdistricts for Brixton can they PM me? My map only goes down as far as SW2 / SW9 which might be a bit of information overload.

up and running

All finished. You can signup to the email alerts here:

http://lists.mybrixton.org/mailman/listinfo/planning

By default it churns out one email a day listing any planning applications recieved the previous day for SW2 or SW9. If there are no applciations there's no email. For anyone who wants a weekly (ish) email choose the digest option when signing up.

Each application has a tinyurl link to the full application and feedback form on the council's website.

A couple of things that dont work properly:

- Any applications that dont a postcode wont get picked up.

- I can only pickup the first 10 applications per day (from which I filter out SW2 & SW9). Its very rare that there are that many though I think.

Any techy types who want the (shoddy) code can PM me.

Great idea. Does it include applications to chop down trees? I'm mourning the unnecessary removal of the eucalyptus tree in the walled garden in Brockwell Park.

Thought this thread was worth bumping seeing as the fab planning alerts app is now accessible on BrixtonBuzz:

On other planning-related news, does anyone know any more about this 'development opportunity' on the corner of Barrington Road/Coldharbour Lane? I couldn't find anything on the haart.co.uk site.

They're asking about £850K. I don't think there are any permissions in place. Something to do with back garden opportunity.

There was a planning application a year or so back for an extension on the side - not sure if approved or not, but nothing happened (yet).
I'm sure someone will eventually squeeze a small block of flats on the back garden facing CHL. It couldn't look as vulgar as Raphael House with its obligatory ground floor car park.

One of the most illuminating aspects of the planning alerts is seeing the food hygeine ratings for various establishments around Brixton...

1 out of five for a Brixton butcher. Whooda thought it?
People see this kind of operation being allowed to continue in the market and all the stalls get tarred with the same brush. Getting rid of the crappier operators will help do wonders for the market over the time.

Good photos!
As far as I can discern the planning inspector basically approved something similar to the top view (which is in perspective looking slightly obliquely westwards). The inspector wanted a high wall similar to the existing boundary wall rather than railings on top of a new lower wall as in the plans.
The 2nd view shows the elevation face-on, not including walls and showing the gap between Angell Terrace and the new building, and also gap between the new build and the Mosque women's section at 1A Gresham Road to scale.
There are 3-D impressions below this (bear in mind higher wall and no railings).

Brixton Mosque have recently received planning permission to build 4 storey flats behind their Women's section, so all in all this little part of Gresham Road will end up blending in nicely with New Albermarle and Brixton Square.
