Black metal that is not politically dodge

Chick Webb

Countryfile and a can
I'm never really sure whether making a list of nazi bm to avoid, or the non-nazi bm to pursue is the more useful list. So will you lot help me? Give me metal recs who are not nazis.

When you try to look this up online you get castigated by non-political metallers saying you shouldn't care about this stuff. But I personally don't listen to bands if I know for a fact they're dodge. Ones I already have are:
SATYRICON
DEATHSPELL OMEGA
NORTT
DRUDKH
FURZE
GOTT IN UNS
BATHORY
SKYFORGER
LIFELOVER
STRIBORG

there's loads, especially atm. lots of great crossover stuff too. wolves in the throneroom?
Ahh yeah. I like them. I was listening to them recently flying along in the train through west London and I felt like I was in a music video about my life. It was cool. I'm getting more tolerance towards what I consider modern tendencies in metal these days, like Altar of Plagues and that.

<book marks thread>

I prefer melodic death mostly, but some BM's hits the mark too. Aside the politics the low production puts me off a lot thoug. I guess that's just one of the genre's hallmarks.

in that documentary on the norwegian scene (until the light takes us? well worth watching) vikerns goes into some technical detail about how they tried to get the shittiest sound possible on the burzum records...
I'm getting to this party really late, but one of the things I find fascinating is putting the vocals down really low in the mix. I believe that's not just an aural thing but also a philosophic.

Cheers. I'll have a look for it.

IME talking to people in the scene it was about getting away from mainstream production values - mainstream meaning the US/Florida stuff like Death. Getting back to the demotape sound.

I like Abigail Williams. Don't know much about their politics. Texan symphonic black metal band. Their name probably says what they're about. In the Absence of Light is a great album.

Yeah, those fans still glorify tapes and low key production, which is cool. I saw a review of some of my mates' band on some BM site, and they were totally glorifying how crude it sounded, and best of all, it came to them on a tape. These lads:

Come on you lot! What's the best metal band I've never head of? Bear in mind the last time I asked someone this, I ended up with a Watain album.

Cool, I'll give them a listen in a while. Got boring flash problems at the mo. Yeah, don't get me wrong, I hate the over produced sound of nu metal, as well as the content, to take the extreme opposite example. But thin buzzy guitars take me a while to get used too.

it's a shame varg is such a nazi shit tbh, cause burzum were amazing.

jump to 13.45 for his description of how they got the signature sound...
I've deliberately never listened to them and have no clue what they're like. I recently got into Emperor though, and was horrified to hear their bad history (which I think I knew as teenager but had forgotten). The thing about their first album is, I was expecting it to be, I don't know... harsh or something. And it's actually trancendentally beautiful. I wasn't expecting that. Now I tell myself the wrongun was just a peripheral member, so who cares about him. But I feel weird about it all.

You might like that link! I listened to it over and over for hours the first time I heard it.
ETA: Lyrics in Gealic! Not that anyone can hear them...

(actually they aren't particularly black. there was a BM band that weekend who were pretty good though, i'll see if i can remember who it was)

have you heard wode from manchester?

i know a vegan anarchist lad who's well into all his black metal. i'll give him a nudge and see if he has any suggestions...

Is his name F? If so, I constantly ask him for metal reccomendations, and he rarely gives them cos he's too much of miserable cunt. (P.s sorry my friend F if you're reading this, love you xx)
